Question: would the !anime@ani.social community be able to submit an anisong from this past year? That would be a song made for an anime show or movie.
Yes! As long as the song was made for that specific anime/show/movie, and it was released after 2025. Excited to see what ya'll submit!
Follow-up question: I am trying to get a feel for the "international hit" rule and how to apply it in this case. Anime is already a bit of a niche, but it can certainly break out into the mainstream, and I don't want to contravene the spirit of this event by just choosing something that already hit it big so to speak.
My initial thought for an easy way to gauge this for our community is that videos over a view threshold should be excluded. An arbitrary value might be something like 10M or so. Looking over the award nominees from 2025 in the community for musical piece, that would exclude 3 of the 6 nominees.
Does that seem reasonable?
Yeah that sounds good, actually that was how eureddivision handled it in the past (max views number on youtube), but honestly, I'm open to anything especially since as you said anime is niche (but still popular), so anime soundtracks are even more specific!
do i have to have written the song because i don't have enough time to get a band together and record shit (if i had known YESTERDAY, i could have thrown it together but friends would have been writing the half the song and not me) but i would like to nominate a band i saw a year ago, like, almost to the day. the song is not on any albums though i have to search it on youtube to listen to it and i love it.
band i would like to nominate, they are reasonably famous (you have definitely heard one of their songs, and everyone who has ever opened for them has won a grammy but they haven't which is what the song I want to share is about)
edit AND WHY ISN'T IT FISH THEMED I GOT AN ALBUM OF FISH SONGS I'M TOTALLY WRITING i want to speak to a managar please
No no the idea is to share songs from artists / bands primarily, people are welcome to submit their own but it's not a requirement
Question: for the rule that a song must have been released within the last year, there is only given a "starting date". Does that mean songs from 2026 can be nominated, too, or is it 2025 only?
(I guess it's meant to be 2025 only, but it's worded somewhat openly.)
Hey hey, as long as the song was released after 2025, it will be accepted, so basically any song from 2025 and 2026 !
I should have worded it better, I'll edit the main post
what if the song has not been released and is just a "we perform this live" song
That works for me, it just needs to exist somewhere haha
Thanks for the clarification!
Also I wanna add, I mention Lemmy because I'm basically just copy pasting the announcements year after year with minimal changes, but Piefed gaining traction means I will have to figure out a word to include both softwares, I don't think we have a word for both Lemmy+Piefed yet so I'll think about it. Anyway what I'm trying to say is that Piefed instances are obviously welcome and I consider them Lemmy instances for the purpose of the contest. Maybe long term this means changing the contest name to something more generalist? Maybe opening the contest to other fediverse software? Idk yet...
I don’t think we have a word for both Lemmy+Piefed yet
I've heard Threadiverse
Threadivision sounds good
Good idea, it is more software neutral and give room to other fediverse software.
Why not : fedivision ?
I think you can create a new post about its future name :)
I'm spreading the word about the contest 😎
i really love those events : lemmyvision and canvas are the best moment in the fediverse. Thank for organizing it. :3
Already used https://fedivision.party/
They made a quite beautiful website :)
Does that include threads tho?
No, they don't federate (and even if they did most instances have preemptively blocked them). Anyway we were using the term first, so no need to allow them to steal it.
Yes as @openstars@piefed.social pointed out, we would never allow threads to federate with our servers. We defederated when we learned that meta created thread.
They stole and sell our data under a false "consent" that no one read and feed AI with it. They are also far-right supporter (moderation team located in Texas under the pretence of free speech)
However we cannot garantee a full protection againt meta.
🤢
(I hope it doesn't, but I worry what the name implies)
Do they even federate? Last memo I remember was "AP federation part in the future. Sometime. Maybe"
Did a quick search and the answer is kinda? Maybe? It looks like it's on a per-account, opt-in basis. Everything I saw was from 2024 tho, and idk how it actually works, or how many people are actually deciding to federate.
Don't forget mbin and nodebb, there is much more 😉
Suggestion: Would it be possible for !vocaloid@ani.social to participate (i.e. submitting a vocaloid song)? (of course only if the mods are ok with it @hitagi@ani.social @belluck@lemmy.blahaj.zone)
Sorry I thought I had sent my reply but absolutely yes, this is the kind of extra participation I love to see!
I was only added as a mod because the previous top mod left Lemmy.
I think I can make a post over there and a survey.
That would be nice, thank you. I could also make the post, but it would have to wait till I’m home on Monday
