That’s a bad analogy. I just asked 4 of my friends (25-65) if they knew who the Beatles were. Everyone said yes. Then I asked if they knew VU, everyone (including myself) had no clue who that was.

This isn’t going to be as big as you think it is.

I never really liked her. They tried to give her a redemption arc bit it felt like she was just brought in to stir things up.

So I (kinda) understand where this is going with an attempt to protect Americans. but how does it not just blow up and instead of offering more jobs to Americans in the US, won’t companies just offshore the jobs instead of offering them here?

Oh I’m just… gushing with excitement….

I can hear this image, and need to put my sunglasses on.

You can blame me. Just like washing a car, I just bought a B580.

Recent game music almost sounds too cookie cutter. It’s like movie music. It’s just… there. It used to be you could remember not just main themes but ancillary ones too and you can thank John Williams and Nobou Uematsu for that, but seriously how many recent games or movies have iconic standout soundtracks?

So I have a job that will be getting me out of the US. For most things I’m not to worried, except for my computer. What would be the best way to securely move it and also not potentially worry about damaging it?

It’ll be a given that I have an encrypted off-site (cloud) back up, but I’m torn about removing the drives to hand carry and then shipping the chassis. My only worry about that would be customs stopping me because of carrying hard drives… more specifically 3x M.2, which I’m not as worried about and 4x 2.5” SSDs

Thoughts?

Time to co-opt the American flag, Come and take it or Don’t tread on me and watch them try to ban those…

Honestly they could have released single player DLC for V and made a load of money without having to even develop VI

Honestly that’s why I just stick with local site auth and a password manager. 1) it lets me remember things via my manager and 2) if it’s compromised, they’ll only have access to that site and not other ones I’ve used to log in with.

Yup on a 2 dimensional surface or if all three share a plane it’ll never work. Only way would be if one was extruded and the other two weren’t touching.

Internal recruiters only care about positions at their company. External recruiters really only care about an applicant if there’s a position that needs filled that they’ve been contracted out to fill (mainly because they get a cut, don’t fault them for that).

What I’m curious is if there is someone who is willing to work on your behalf and leverage connections they have in an industry to find a person a job regardless of where it is.

Im either using the wrong search terms or it doesn’t exist (for reference I’m looking for Director+ IT).

Tap for spoilerI just realized that the space core is orbiting Wheatley because of how “dense” he is.

Here’s a question that I can’t seem to find more info on the internet on, so I’m turning to Lemmy. Does anyone have a better understanding of the specifications around an ONT. I know it basically converts the incoming fiber (usually single mode single fiber) to an RJ45 jack for copper runs but that’s the part I’m curious about:

  • does it convert it to use standard Ethernet frames or is it a proprietary protocol?
  • if Ethernet, is the port speed 1G, 10G, etc or based on the hardware?
  • if it’s a proprietary protocol, what does it use?

I recently got a new router and noticed it’s capable of 5Gbps on one port, but that got me thinking about the ONT and if I were to upgrade my service would i also need the ONT replaced too?

I’m in IT at an upper level and know painfully well what “AI” really is and that it’s not the disruptor people think it will be. However I feel like I can’t post it anywhere without being judged about it as almost every exec I know has bought into it hook, line and sinker. Even other people I talk to about the issues and limitations look at me like I’m completely weird “you’re in IT and you don’t embrace AI? wtf is wrong with you?”

So what do you all do? I don’t want to make things career limiting but I feel like I’m screaming in the dark seeing where things will really go. It reminds me a lot of the move to cloud and everyone going all in on it without knowing the real ramifications.

You’ve seen instances of quadruple amputees, people losing their lower half and instestines, etc. After playing a bit of Deus Ex I started wondering exactly how much of a person needs to exist for them to survive (not talking quality of life, but just enough to communicate intelligently). How far could you do it with only natural parts and then how far could you go with artificial parts too?

May be phrasing it wrong, but I look at actions like Labor rights, Pride, Civil Rights, Black Panthers, etc. where actions of protesters felt much intense and made more of an impact in actually changing things vs now where there are protests but it feels like it constantly falls of deaf ears.

Have we just not hit that breaking point yet? Have we collectively been beat down so hard? Or have we forgotten how to truly fight for rights? Or… am I just completely off the mark and missing something else?
