Well kind of, i know most sites need to have an Impressum (name and contact info of the person legally responsible for its contents). I am not entirely sure how it is handled for private, non commercial sites, but in general yes you have to provide a way to get a hold of you for legal issues. And an email wont do.

... Autistic people eat only fried garbage? That doesn't seem exclusively neurodivergent to be honest. I know some have that thing about food textures, but...

I am explaining to you why people dont want to be confronted with reality. Genocide, neo nazis, war, literal pedophiles and/or billionaires in power, political drift towards ever more hate and destruction of social systems.

I know all about that, i really do not need to intently consume every single piece of dismal news. All that does is make me feel terrible because i cant change it like that, and it doesnt open my eyes to anything, my eyes are open already.

Call me when it's revolution time.

Back in the day we would call this a humblebrag, which was the style at the time.

Bruh this isnt a matter of people closing their eyes and humming loudly, this is a problem of mental health. The world is going really poorly right now, dystopian bullshit all around and people feel powerless to change it meaningfully. The constant barrage of terrible news can seriously fuck up peoples mental wellbeing. Take reality in moderation these days.

I kind of expected these to have aged worse. Some are solid - if a little obvious in modern times - advice.

And then there are the others... At least some of them are humorous; show them to your partner guys i'm sure she will appreciate them. Even if she is just a wife 🫠

Hey guys, in the last few days my current one has started having some ghosting / unresponsive key issues and I am looking for a replacement.

The current one is a logitech g910 with programmable keys, which sadly don't work under Linux (I bought the keyboard when I still used windows). Now I know most keyboards with programmable functionality require software on the computer to work, and windows software at that.

Can someone here make a recommendation? I need

  • full Linux compatibility
  • 3-8 programmable keys
  • full layout with numpad
  • media / volume controls would be nice to have
  • (obviously) mechanical keys with good feedback, I mostly use it for gaming

Thank you in advance 🙂

E: thanks everyone for the useful responses, i landed on a keychron k3 (after some comparing i decided i could do without the numpad). Had to buy it from amazon sadly because their own store is like 3/4 sold out and didnt have the german layout i need in stock.

Hey guys, i wrote this comment yesterday in an unrelated community. Perhaps someone here has an idea what i am looking for:

This reminds me of a project I saw some years ago, it was AR glasses with just a monochrome display that would project into the eye itself, adjusted to the individual user by an optometrist.

It was less ambitious than the other projects at the time on what it would be able to display, but this had the distinct advantage of being extremely power efficient and lightweight, allowing the system to fit into a normal glasses form factor.

It also looked cyberpunk as fuck with the user having a glowing red dot in one of his eyes during use, at least to everyone else. I tried a bunch of times to google for what ever has become of it, because I was very interested in the concept as a wearer of glasses.

Does anyone by any chance know what I'm talking about? This would have been in the early to mid 2010s.

TLDR: Want my cyberpunk glasses. Pls halp

Thanks in advance 🙂

Hello, I am looking for help with some small issues I've been having with gnome (bazzite), mostly annoyances. Their discord is okay ish as a resource but takes a long time to get replies to specific issues, especially when they are more generally Linux questions and not specific to bazzite. So here goes:

I have 3 drives installed, one of them an old HDD for media storage. During the bazzite setup I selected all of them to be included since was about to reinstall the OS (and had them retroactively mounted in the old install and figured they might be treated more natively this way in the new installation).

Well the plan worked too well, and I now have no discernible drives I can locate individually outside the drive manager app, which doesn't really bother me beyond not knowing if the system will use it inefficiently (I.e store things aside from data and media on the slow HDD). Is there a way to configure how it will use the drives?

Second, I was given a pre-made admin account during setup. I really want to not have to log in with a password on each boot, is it possible to skip (only) that somehow and auto log in? I still like the password for admin level privileges.

And last, part of the reason for my reinstallation was constant issues with the stupid keyring app (seahorse?). Most of the time it would prompt me on boot, when my VPN app would try to retrieve its credentials, to set up a new keyring for it despite there being literally dozens of keyrings from its previous boots with the needed info, all freely accessible.

I have so far begrudgingly refrained from installing the VPN again because I want to find a solution for this first; and discovered that i can also set up a VPN connection directly in the OS. However from what I can tell this would prevent me from switching locations / slow servers easily, is there an alternative I am missing such as a different keyring app I could install or a function in Linux to change servers effectively (with load info and preferably without having to set up vpns manually for all the hundreds of possible servers I can choose from my VPN provider)?

Thank you for reading the wall of text this has become 👀

TLDR:

  • different types of hard drive are being used. How does the system, which manages them apparently as one, utilize them?

  • pre made admin account requires password which makes login tedious. How to skip the password only for login?

  • keyring issues. Is there any alternative to it?

16

So, i have been a Linux only user for about a year now I think. I went with bazzite, and am quite happy so far, i haven't yet managed to brick anything and almost everything I want to do is easily done.

However, there is the keyring app that gives me nothing but grief. Supposedly it stores login credentials for applications on the system. Practically, it does whatever the fuck it wants, and I have no idea why.

Randomly, on every system boot, it asks me to create a new keyring. Doesn't access already stored info, doesn't store afterwards entered credentials properly either. Ultimately it doesn't work for me at all.

...or so you would think. Sometimes, for no discernible reason, it works as expected. No keyring creation prompt, no manual typing of my vpn credentials. It has them stored, reads them properly, and connects the vpn automatically and quietly in the background just as I set it up and want to behave.

But anytime I get used to it just working as expected it goes back to a period of constant password typing and dozens upon dozens of (empty) duplicate entries in its credential list.

What the fuck is going on with that damn app, and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance

We just reached a point where they feel confident in going full mask off. They have subverted the american democracy and are poised to do it elsewhere too, and can pursue their hideous goals more openly.

Hey guys, I am trying to get rid of my old Facebook accounts. I have not been using them for years, in fact I dont know their login data and for one i dont even have access to the email address any more.

I am a EU citizen and attempted to instruct them to close the accounts per email, since logging in requires me to consent to them using my data or pay money (probably illegal here too).

They sent me a quick response basically to go fuck myself, even after I offered to provide personal identification to verify I am the account owner and reminded them that I am an EU citizen and that my data is subject to those laws.

How can i force these fuckers to comply with my request for deletion of the accounts and associated data?

Hey guys, I made the switch to Linux about a week ago and have mo complaints so far. Except maybe this: I can't seem to find a way in Linux to get proper loudness equalization like I got on windows.

My issue is that I have a bunch of media, especially shows and movies, that are suffering from way too loud gunshots, explosions, music and so forth and really quiet dialogue. I know this is because sound engineers make the audio fit for cinemas and not my living room, it is a problem nonetheless.

Under windows there is a simple toggle in even the most basic sound cards and settings called loudness equalization, that corrects those perceived differences quite effectively, which Linux is lacking. A bit of web search led me to the term ReplayGain, which seems to be the proper name for it, and I enabled it for my media from within the player apps. However it doesn't really work like i am used to.

Sounds and language constantly change volume mid sentence, which is very irritating to me. ReplayGain also doesn't really help avoiding those sudden bursts of loudness, I still blast awake my neighbors on accident when watching a move later at night.

Is there some way to get at that windows audio codec or whatever they use, that works so much better?

Thanks for reading

Hey guys, so i just now pulled the trigger, formatted my windows installation and installed Linux for the first time. I went with bazzite, which seems very gaming friendly and idiot proof with its rollback functionality.

Now to the issue: I have 3 drives in my computer, one 500gb SSD which i used for the OS. This one can be accessed fine as expected. The other two, a 2tb SSD and 1tb HDD however, dont. I cant seem to find a way to access them, and i have all my media on there / want to install games onto them.

How can i access them, and tell the OS that these two are also part of its system?

Hey guys, I am somewhat new to android (went straight to grapheneos) and am a bit annoyed with this widget.

It looks good, but the skip buttons are tiny and my gorilla fingers have trouble hitting them reliably. Is there a way to change to a different layout with bigger buttons or even gesture support?

I am aware that most music apps come with a widget for the home screen but I specifically need the one shown on the lock screen and pulldown menu to change.

Thanks in advance!

Streaming went to shit when everyone made their own. It was good and worth the money when it was one portal with everything available.

Now i am back navigating the stormy high seas, to avoid the treacherous shores of bankruptcy

I hope this is the proper place to ask, though probably only indirectly on topic for this community.

What I am looking for is a way or tool to extract from a YouTube playlist the information which of my saved videos (usually very niche music from about a decade ago) are no longer available in it (so that I might procure them elsewhere).

With google being google, and the condensed information of "x videos are no longer available" that is displayed, I am fairly sure the information isnt gone gone, just hidden from the user.

Is there a way to get at that info?

Thanks in advance

So i recently got my first android phone after having been an iphone user for years. So far i am really happy and especially enjoy finding foss alternatives to as many apps as possible.

However i cant seem to find a gameboy emulator, one oft the things i missed on ios all those years. Mostly for gba games, maybe gbc too. Does someone here have a recommendation? All the ones i found on fdroid were incompatible.

I was wondering if you could add alternate icon support for the Android version, so it can be themed properly.

Obviously this is purely cosmetic, but it would be a very nice addition

Update for future readers: the functionality actually already exists, choose one of the themed icons for voyager from the list.

So it just occurred to me that during the TNG production era there is a shift in ship nomenclature:

  • TNG: The Enterprise
  • DS9: The Defiant/Yukon/Danube/etc.
  • VOY: ~~The~~ Voyager
  • (ENT): "Ennurprais" is all that’s left.

Seems towards the later shows they stopped referring to the ship as a, well, ship and just addressed it as a character? Why?

Eh, there is sufficient evidence to recommend children and teenagers having limited internet and social media access during their formative years at this point.

The tiktok algorithm of mindless doomscrolling funny little bits all short and digestible for a decaying attention span is just the most egregious example why restrictions should at least be considered.
