Without being able to see all the photos, I don’t understand the issue. A trash bin blew over and trash was being blown out of it? And you were trying to figure out who should be called to deal with it?

I suppose you’re thinking of Europe and the Nazis there and not the firebombing of the city of Tokyo, or the nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I’m aware of the usual excuses that these were defensive acts, but seriously, give me a fucking break.

The more you know, the more there is for you to possibly worry about. Ignorance is bliss! Here’s a fun anecdote to calm your jitters.

Once upon a time I was trying to reassure my coworker who had an upcoming appointment. “I’m scared! I want to do it but I’m scared of the pain! It’s going to hurt!” she groaned.

I asked “where on your body are you getting the work?”

“On my stomach,” she said.

“Oh,” I said, “that’s a good place. It won’t hurt that much. You have a lot of fat on your stomach.”

She just frowned at me. One of the other cooks walked in and she shouted “He just called me fat!”

“The rhetorical ‘you!’” I tried to explain, to no avail. I never heard the end of that one from her.

I agree the state should not infringe speech. You are free to blow more word count than is actually in the First Amendment on reminding us that it exists, and you did. I get it.

But we can hold the belief that the state should stay out of it even while we personally shit on assholes spewing hate and crying “free speech” when they get a reaction to it. They have free speech - they cry about it because they want it to be guaranteed bandwidth / freedom from consequences. Fuck them and fuck that.

As far as I’m concerned, Tom Waits solved ticket scalping back in 1999. He did two shows in my area on the Mule Variations tour. When you bought tickets, you could only buy two, and you had to give a name. Not an id, just a name. And then at the door, you had to show ID. You would anyway because it was a 21-and-up show, but the name on the ID had to match the name on the ticket. They didn’t scan shit. Just the doorman glanced at the name, and compared it to what was printed on the ticket. You could buy as many pairs of tickets as you wanted under the same name, but you couldn’t then sell them to people because their ID wouldn’t match at the door.

Simple. Non invasive. It worked. The show was amazing.

This is a good example of how the past doesn’t go anywhere. Those drugs are still around as much as they ever were, or in even greater numbers. But we all know what they are now and what they do. There’s nothing to talk about so their names drop off the cultural airwaves. They’ve settled into the culture. You don’t hear about them, but that doesn’t mean they’re not around. The past doesn’t go anywhere. The future is just laid on top of it.

This is a really cool and I love it. I have considered going similar directions. One thing that always nags at me is the idea of having full spectrum lights on indoors day after day month after month. Won’t that UV light eventually burn those shadows into your hardwood floor perceptibly?

Well, that’s what a rhetorical question is. You’re making a statement, not a query, but the best way to couch your statement happens to be with a question mark at the end of it. I’m not sure this is the best example of one, but at least they made an attempt to label it as such.

Aren’t we as humans proving every year that goes by, that no matter how much power and knowledge you amass, you can still be an evil, childish, asshole? God is just a little further along that dotted line. He’s got all the power and knowledge. This doesn’t make him mature or good.

I think one of Dave’s mistakes is in thinking he didn’t have any “down.” His humor is brilliant and searing when it comes to being black. He’s done skits where he’s a slave. He sees himself as the historical victim of the ages and never imagined that anyone could take what he says as coming from above. Classic privilege blindness, and a great illustration of what that means intersectionally.

I’m so sick of people trying to hide hate speech behind free speech, behind tolerance, behind pluralism. It’s hate. It’s hate. It doesn’t need to be protected and included. This is very old news. All they do by quibbling about it is broadcast to the world that their intellect is about 100 years behind the rest of us. Fuck you, Dave.

It would disgust decent people everywhere if SBF got a pardon. So I'd say he has a shot! The only question is: what can he offer Trump? Advice on crypto scams, perhaps?

I enjoy the various endgame activities and tweaking my build to try new things. But it doesn’t seem right that I am only level 80 and haven’t gotten a piece of gear I care about in a long time. Grinding out those last Paragon points hardly seems worth it.

  1. Get a reply to a comment
  2. View your inbox, see that reply
  3. Wonder what your comment was again, and what they are replying to…
  4. Tap their reply

Expect: go to the reply, in context, in the thread, ideally with your comment that they are replying to shown also (wefwef currently does this)

Actual: go to thread, but neither the reply nor your comment are shown - you have to scroll the entire thread and find them

Why a priority? Because this directly impedes back and forth conversation, which is the whole mode of Lemmy.

Appreciate the work. Thanks for hearing this feedback.
