In this online roleplaying world, with a gameplay reminiscent of Ultima Online and Runescape, players develop characters along a semi-classless system, though the pace of mastery hinges on their character's attributes, engaging in strategic Rock, Paper, Scissors combat through point-and-click, delving into intricate crafting systems like the notoriously complex alchemy, maintaining immersive IC roleplay, and establishing themselves by building or renting customizable castles, mansions, or houses.

2 days ago I made a post that the game would not run on a Linux desktop PC (but it would on the Steam Deck). 10 hours ago they released an update that resolves this issue and makes the game run through Proton on a Linux desktop PC.

- The Beta now supports players on Linux thru Proton

I can confirm it does run and I just did the short tutorial. I still have to play more, but wanted to inform anyone who is interested into the game.

Splitgate 2 opened the public beta since today or yesterday. Unfortunately the game does not run on desktop PC with a Linux operating system. Others have the same problem.

But whats weird is, people claim it works on Steam Deck and even the official blog post from the devs says they support the Steam Deck. There is no word about general Linux desktops.

So does the developers treat the Steam Deck like a console and make their games not playable on general purpose Linux desktops? Its weird, because otherwise it is playable on a general desktop with Windows too. Even the previous game Splitgate 1 (which they shut off) worked on desktop Linux. It makes no sense!

I'm totally disappointed right now. Because I was excited for this game. It got some hero abilities (I like that) and even a map creator.

I remember playing the original Windward and it was fun though it stopped getting updates before it could get really good. I tried the demo of this new sequel and it looks like it could be pretty fun.

Hotfix release:

added envvar needed for winewayland patch fixes to work (automatically set when PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND is set)

added patch so that PROTON_ENABLE/DISABLE_HIDRAW works as expected.

Important note: PLEASE do NOT manually set DISPLAY= when trying to enable winewayland. ALL that is needed is PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1. When you manually disable DISPLAY= it can break many applications that need to render natively, in particular things like launchers or things that need to render with OpenGL or Vulkan directly. (not via dxvk/vkd3d).

Hotfix release:

Fixes missing comma in proton script causing prefix issues (this was also a valve upstream issue)

Fixes accidental import of the steam ffmpeg libraries instead of the ones we build and ship (this was an accidental copy/paste when porting changes from Proton 10) -- this should fix video playback in a lot of titles as they worked in proton 9

Removes setting ENABLE_HDR_WSI -- this option is only specific for the vk_hdr_layer (https://github.com/Zamundaaa/VK_hdr_layer) hack, which is -not- needed as of mesa 25.1 and can cause washed out colors. If you previously used this, it's advised to remove it, and update mesa to 25.1 if you want HDR.

added a few patches for allowing more launchers to work in wayland (epic, battlenet, star citizen)

added patch to allow 32 bit EOS overlay to work for Among Us.

added raw input patches for winewayland (un-accelerated mouse)

added touchpad scrolling support patch for winewayland

xalia library updates imported from upstream

dxvk updated to latest git

vkd3d-proton updated to latest git

Running KDE Neon 6.3.5, Nvidia 570.144 proprietary drivers, an RTX 4070S.

I'm not too sure just when this started, but I no longer have the option to enable Nvidia Frame Gen, I only have the option for AMD FSR3 Frame Generation - Which honestly isn't as good.

I think the issue may have presented itself when SteamDeck=1 %command% became a hard pre requisite to run the game?

Is anyone else seeing the same behavior, or is it just me?

Steam launch options below:

gamemoderun mangohud LD_PRELOAD="" SteamDeck=1 %command% -PSOCompileMode=1

Just before the update I was playing all right, console logs does not have anything weird I can go off of, but it doesn't start anything relevant to the game starting a window

I've tried running it on GE 9.25(i was using this previously), GE 9.16 and 10.0-1 with no success, using the launch option SteamDeck=1 %command%

Anyone able to get the game running?

Proton:

  • GE-Proton rebased on top of Valve's Proton 10 Bleeding Edge

  • Wine-Wayland has been enabled and patches from upstream wine backported for it. YMMV (Your mileage may vary). Thanks Etaash-mathamsetty for the backporting as well as the wine-wayland specific patch fixes for various games.

  • Dualsense controller patches from ClearlyClaire https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/7238 rebased (thanks loathingKernel)

  • FSR patches rebased (thanks loathingKernel)

  • Nvidia Reflex low latency patches rebased

Protonfixes:

  • Marvel Rivals EGS fix added (thanks termdisc)

  • Fix added for The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (thanks UsernamesAreNotMyThing)

  • Fix added for Borderlans: The Pre-Sequel (thanks loathingKernel)

  • Fix added for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered (thanks Reilley64)

  • Fix added for Breath of Fire 4 (GOG) (Thanks ImLinguin)

  • Fixes added for Star Citizen (Thanks mactan-sc)

  • Fix added for Yosumin (Thanks UsernamesAreNotMyThing)

  • Fix added for Liminal Border Part III (thanks R1kaB3rN)

  • Fix added for Mojika Truth Rears Its Head (thanks superboo7)

Info regarding Wine-Wayland:

YMMV (Your mileage may vary). Most games that utilizes DXVK or VKD3D should be fine. Games that have native Vulkan or OpenGL are a coin toss. Most launchers should also be fine (Again huge thanks to Etaash, he's been hammering out a lot off the Wine-Wayland bug fixes, including one that was critical for OpenGL and launcher rendering). If a game or launcher isn't working, please DON'T come bugging us to fix it. Officially we're with Valve on this -- it's not supported. It's there for people to use/try/test out because it's a wanted feature, that's the extent of it.

New option for using Wine-Wayland:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1

New option for using HDR with Wine-Wayland:

PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1

It goes without saying, but just in case people don't know -- You need Wine-Wayland to use HDR, therefore you need both options for HDR:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command%

If you want to use Wine-Wayland without HDR, you do NOT need this option:

PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1

Known issues with Wine-Wayland:

DOOM 2016: Opens in small window and crashes on resolution change without mesa patch. Fixed with patch

DOOM Eternal: Crashes without mesa patch. Broken mouse cursor in menus, Broken mouse pointing in-game

DOOM The Dark Ages: Broken mouse pointing in-game

Wolfenstein The Old Blood: OpenGL error crash

Wolfenstein The New Order: OpenGL error crash

Wolfenstein Youn Blood: mangohud broken

Path of Exile/Path of Exile 2: Vulkan renderer broken without mesa patch. Fixed with patch.

AMD-Specific:

mesa patches needed for DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/34918

mesa patches needed for DOOM Dark Ages: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/34944

mesa patches needed for Path of Exile/Path of Exile 2 (currently not submitted yet): https://github.com/Nobara-Project/rpm-sources/blob/42/baseos/mesa/min_image_count.patch

Hopefully we can figure out a fix for the cursor issue in the DOOM games. Fingers crossed

EDIT: Seems that adding LD_PRELOAD="" %COMMAND% on steam's launch options fixed my problem. Thanks a lot, everyone :)

The game is The Entropy Centre. Midnight Fight Express, which I have finished right before, doesn't seem to be affected.

Since 2 days ago the game (not Steam) started returning the error:

"A D3D11-compatible GPU (Feature Level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0) is required to run the engine."

I am on LMDE6.

Proton Hotfix or Experimental or 9.0-4 are not working.

Proton 8.0-5 is the first one that works, but with some significant lagging, but I am positive I played the same version of the game using Experimental a few days ago with no lagging and on same Nvidia drivers (535.216.01).

An FPS counter titled VK (I guess from Vulkan) shows when running 8.0, while it didn't in Experimental.

I have tried resetting the shader precaching in the settings, but nothing changes.

The game was also uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail.

Any tips for debugging this?

Hi all,

I'm going to try getting Zwift (a game that connects to Bluetooth, WiFi, or ANT+ bike trainers) running in Linux.

I'm pretty sure I can do this with my trainer since mine supports WiFi connectivity, but am curious as to if I could make it work with trainers that only support BT or ANT+.

I've previously done stuff like USB and PCI pass-through with KVM, but is this possible with Steam and Proton?

Thanks.

As glitches go, I thought this was pretty cool. Let's just say that I was in the right headspace for psychedelic colors. This happened to me last night on Bazzite Nvidia. It lasted for a few minutes, but before I could think to take a picture, it corrected itself. Must be a game issue if it is also happening on PS5. The only reference I could find online was this reddit post. May be HDR related. https://old.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1kbqqn4/weird_color_issue_on_ps5_since_dleding_patch_8/

I was looking at the protondb for Battlefield V and it has a gold medal despite the fact that it has been literally unplayable (the game won't even start) fpr 6 months now.

Are medals impossible to lose? Or do they run on some sort of manual verification? Is there some way to request a game to have it's grade changed.

For reference, the change in this case was the addition of EA Anti-cheat, which breaks linux compatibility and borked a considerable number of games, even older ones.

Games I like tend to be written in Unity, or at least they were in the past. And usually I like to mod them.

How do I correctly set up Unity Mod Manager on Linux? Does it make a difference if the game comes from Steam or GOG?

Disclaimer: I am very new to Linux (1 week).

I have installed the Valve version of Steam on LMDE6. I have used Disks to automatically mount the NTFS drive I used with Windows (doesn't hold bootloader, it is just for Steam library storage) at boot ( /media/[username]/Gaming ) and I made it the default library folder in Steam.

Running games works perfectly (actually, performance is surprisingly good), but I cannot install them due to a "disk write error".

I looked for solutions and found this page, from which I understand that I need to change permissions to the mounting point, but when I do, using chown -R, I get a "Read-only filesystem" error for all files and folders.

I can see no options to fix this in Disks and I tried to edit fstab once, but it messed things up so badly I had to use the USB drive with the portable installer to fix things.

Your games on Linux might unknowingly run slower than they need to. My games had inconsistent FPS between different sessions—smooth 144 FPS between stuttering ± 120 FPS—and I couldn't figure out why because all the logs indicated it was running on my dedicated GPU.

First I assumed it was a caching problem due to running distributed computing projects 24/7 [finding primes, not crypto"currencies", don't worry], but it turns out it was in fact arbitrarily using the desktop CPU's integrated graphics instead of the GPU.

Via the Steam game launch options command below one can force the use of one's dedicated GPU—0 or 1 depending on one's PC.

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=0 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
