I'm having a Friend Zone, a non alcoholic cocktail, as I still have strawberry kvass. One of the most delicious cocktails around. Batched it for a party once and nobody could even pick it out as the booze-less one.

I found that the longer my dry vermouth is open (stored in the fridge), the more vermouth I want in my Martini. After maybe 2-3 months, I really enjoy stirred vermouth.

It's definitely true that dry vermouth loses a lot of its aroma after a couple of weeks unsealed in the fridge, but at least with the vermouths I know (Noilly Prat and Dolin), the taste of fresh dry vermouth is too much on its own. Kinda circles back to the "most people don't actually like the taste of vermouth" thing that led to ultra-dry Dry Martinis, but somehow in a different way - 2-3 months of fridge is pretty different from years at room temperature.

I'm prepared to accept that my tastes are just weird, though.

Rhubarb martini (thelemmy.club)

2 oz vodka

1/2 oz lemon

1/2 oz St Germain

1/2 oz rhubarb amaro

Not sure what else to call it. If a drink can be said to be vodka-forward, this is. It's balanced, a little sweet, barely tart, a little bitter, and I don't think I'd want anything adjusted but it is sort of like a really good flavored vodka. I am enjoying it. And I do love a pink drink. May work on this as a start to a Thanksgiving punch.

French Tart (thelemmy.club)
submitted 3 weeks ago by mpg@lemmy.world to c/cocktails@lemmy.world

You can probably guess I’m still working through the grapefruit I squeezed over the weekend… this is a pretty, light, floral little number I found in the data banks that’s perfect for spring. I’m not sure of the origin! Maybe Empress gin, since that’s the named gin in my version of the recipe.

  • 2 oz Empress 1908 gin
  • 1 oz St. Germain
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • ¼ oz lemon juice
  • ¼ oz rosemary simple syrup
  • 1 sprig rosemary for garnish

I used Plymouth gin, and didn’t make rosemary simple syrup — I muddled rosemary leaves with the juices and some sugar. Delicious!

Toucan mojito! (thelemmy.club)

It's just a regular mojito actually, there's no toucan in it.

Lavender bee's knees (thelemmy.club)
  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz honey syrup
  • 1/2 oz lavender syrup

Shake with ice and serve. Would look pretty nice with a piece of lavender on top, if I had planned this better ^^

A more floral variation of the bee's knees, the lavender smell is great. It could be interesting to try with elderflower or maybe violet liquor, now that spring is here!

Paloma variation (thelemmy.club)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by mpg@lemmy.world to c/cocktails@lemmy.world

I was cooking with chickpeas tonight and had a grapefruit laying around… putting it together got me to this Paloma variation. And man, it’s great! Subtle flavor, bitter and sweet, high notes of the tequila, and a gorgeous silky texture.

  • 2 1/2oz reposado tequila
  • 3/4oz grapefruit juice
  • 1/2oz agave
  • 1oz aquafaba

Spumoni Highball (thelemmy.club)

1 oz Campari

1oz orange liqueur

2 oz gin

2oz fresh grapefruit juice

6oz Fever Tree light tonic water

Shook first 4 ingredients with ice, stirred in the tonic water. Tried it and OMG way too sweet for me, bitterness perfect but so overwhelming sweet. Added:

Juice of an entire lemon

And it's delicious now. Like a bitter sparkling grapefruit lemonade. This recipe made 2 servings but I am having both. One for an aperitif and one for dessert.

Regular spumoni recipe has the Campari, gin, grapefruit, tonic and SUGAR. I cannot imagine.

Featuring my neighbor's ever so American truck, and my in between front garden, looking bare but I planted sunflowers & cosmos & giant marigold, they are wee sprouts now. Hopefully won't all get eaten by birds.

Corpse reviver no.2 (thelemmy.club)
  • 1 oz Gin
  • 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz St Germain
  • 3/4 oz Lillet blanc
  • 3/4 oz Lemon juice
  • Absinthe dash

Shake everything with ice and serve.

I'm not sure the elderflower is supposed to be in there, but it works well for me. It's a fairly sweet cocktail, but there is enough citrus to balance it out. Nice way to start the weekend!

Tommy's Margarita (thelemmy.club)

Basically a tequila daiquiri. I used my beloved Tequila Ocho.

2 parts tequila, one part lime, squirt of agave (to taste. Less in mine, more in the one I made for my daughter). So simple, so good.

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.
