For me, I never thought I'd see my 20s. Because growing up, I was a very unhealthy overweight kid and teenager growing up. I had heard of people not making it to their young adult lives because of being plagued by numerous health issues, being overweight one of them.

Whether it's radio or retail that are played by the most inane and vanilla of DJs possible with no taste or other means.

The Cure - Lovesong. Thanks to my store's shitty radio selection, this song plays like 2 - 3 times at a given night. Can't stand it.

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution. The only time I enjoy this song, is if I'm watching the music video anymore and quite frankly, I do recommend watching the music video to this song. But, it's overplayed to me now.

Huey Lewis and the News - Power of Love. This really does break my heart, because I love Huey Lewis and the News, but it's steadily getting up there to being so overplayed that I can't stand it.

AC/DC - Back in Black. Fuck, every god damn commercial, movie trailer and what have you, has killed this song for me.

Any Queen Song. Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, you name it, overplayed to where I can't be bothered to listen to them on my own to enjoy.

Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight. I tie this song to the Hangover, in the scene where the guys meet Mike Tyson and he stops them to listen to his favorite part. But, the more times I've heard this song, the enjoyment I've had is out the window.

The Offspring - Come Out and Play. Loved it a lot back then, it was a symbol of the 90s, now its a symbol of being overplayed.

Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike. Of all of the songs and bands, they have to abuse this one. It's also fucking ironic that they play this song, considering its meaning. I'm waiting to hear something from Rage Against the Machine or KMFDM just to stir the irony pot some more that some corporate entity is blasting songs from bands that are against them.

This question was inspired by a meme I just saw, and my longtime crush on Brad Pitt, who’s 45 years older than me.

Youngest: my age. Oldest: if it’s someone in as good shape as Brad Pitt, the sky’s the limit.

I'm wanting to start learning Spanish, and I'm looking for a free option that isn't Duolingo.

I don't like the gamey fomo aspect of it.

Anyone have a favorite place they found?

Whether it's the most interesting, the most beautiful, or the strangest one for you, which is, in your opinion, the best moon in the Solar System?

Could it be the Earth's own moon, being so large in comparison to the size of our Planet? Perhaps little Phobos and Deimos of Mars? The Galilean moons of Jupiter? Titan, Saturn's largest moon and the only one in the Solar System with a thick atmosphere? Farther out, you have the moons of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto...

A favorite on /r/askreddit, or at least it seems that way to me.

I only have one, and it's not very entertaining.

I was on a bus going to work. A few stops before mine the bus gets cut off by another bus. The driver started yelling at the other driver then pulled over and got out of the bus to, I assume, escalate the conflict. We were near my stop anyway, so I got off before things could get hairy.

One of my children is questioning their gender, and they seem at ease with non-binary. I found this out yesterday, so I'm approaching this gently, though I feel ill-prepared. I want to be who they need.

I'm curious about the experiences of other parents, or stories about your parents learning to adjust if you came out to them.

Follow-up: Thank you all so much for your stories and your feedback!

Jerboa alternatives? (thelemmy.club)
submitted 21 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) by 5oap10116@lemmy.world to c/asklemmy@lemmy.world

Looking for a Jerboa alternative that wont be affected by the non-anonymous Google dev bullshit. I cant hop over to graphene or any other OS for that matter for reasons I wont get into. Getting my shit up and running on Jerboa was a hassle so Id like to figure out which lemmy apps will be viable for the future on basic boy androidOS.

Edit: added the app alert this morning as an image

Inedible as in anything that isn't food (ranging from something that would be dangerous, like glass, poisonous plants, or uranium, to something that is safe to eat but unpleasant with no nutritional value, like cardboard.) Eating the thing will be safe and painless.

Edit: After prompting the user to choose between "login (1)" and "create an account (2)", I am trying to have the program check that:

  • the input is an integer
  • that the input, in case of an integer, is only valid if one (1) or two (2)
  • (optionally) that the data size of the user input is not greater than the integer number one (1) or two (2), as a security measure, to hinder overflow exploits

If I allocate [] or [1] to intCheck the program goes into an endless loop from the very start. No user input required. If, however, I allocate [2] or more, the program works as intended, as long as the total size of bytes of the user input is less than the number of bytes previously allocated. If, however, the user input results in a byte size greater than what was preallocated, the program repeats the else condition of the while loop - here, printf - that number of times. Is this an overflow of choice or what?

//Bank of Haruhi

//TODO
// - Create user account: require user first name, last name, user name, password, age (deny if < 20 yrs)
// - Prompt login (deny if != password && username)
// - Display menu ("About the Bank of Haru", "Account Settings", "Check your balance", "Deposit", "Withdraw", "Close account", "Logout")

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdbool.h>

int main(void) {

//Base
char intCheck[3] = ""; //Will "if (sscanf(char,%d,&int) == true)" check for ANY "char" or a predetermined amount of "char"?

//Registration and login
char firstName[] = "";
char lastName[] = "";
char password[] = "";
int age = 0;

//Menues and selections
int choice = 0;
int arithmeticChoice = 0;

//Balance, deposit and withdrawal
float balance = 0.0;
float deposit = 0.0;
float withdraw = 0.0;

printf("Welcome to the Bank of Haruhi! Please login (1) or create an account (2): ");

while (fgets(intCheck, sizeof(intCheck),stdin)) {
intCheck[strlen(intCheck) - 1] = '\0';
if (sscanf(intCheck, "%d", &choice) == true && sizeof(intCheck) == 4 && choice == 1 || choice == 2) break; //I'm keeping "sizeof(intCheck)" in order to excercise byte size input validation, but I could just remove it and let "if choice == 1 || 2" restrict the valid input.
else printf("Please enter ""1"" to login or ""2"" to create a new account: ");
}

return 0;

}

The program is, of course, not nearly complete. I just stopped doing anything else, as soon as I stumbled upon this phenomenon.

When a story/game/etc. has a character named Zagreus with the title "Prince of the Underworld", and Melinoë with the title "Princess of the Underworld", is this story a derivative of the Hades I & II games? Note that both Zagreus and Melinoë aren't original creations of these games. They are from mythology & folklore, but they barely appear in ancient documents (Zagreus is basically just a name in ancient myths, and Melinoe only appears in a few Orphic Hymns)

Recently started watching old 90s and 80s shows just for the fun of it, because I'm bored with all of the new stuff that's coming out, and I fell into Knight Rider.

My review of the show so far aside, it's got straight up the most banger theme music I have heard in a TV show in a very long time.

https://youtu.be/lxhWxv_5bQ0

It got me wondering what other TV shows have really great theme songs?

I've been thinking about human behaviour. And to me it seems that our brains invoke a "default action" or a "default network" when there is no actionable stimuli or a task or actionable goal at hand. Is there such a thing in psychology?

For example if I complete a task and don't have anything else to do this second I fall back on a default action. This action is dependent on the situation. This action is something that I usually do in a similar situation.

This can be harmful if you are addicted to something. You seek out your addiction. The default action can overridden. But it requires effort. Default action does not. In case of addiction the required effort can be overwhelming. But if you can override the default action again and again the new action becomes the default action in that situation.

I just let them think I thought what they said was hilarious, but I hate the miscommunication.

I came to tell my boss about my mental problems, that caused me to cancel my pto at the last minute only to re put it in next day. It has been in for a week and everything was ready to go.

First texted about it wanting to talk. Ignored. Bring up in morning meeting " no I don't have time we will talk later"

I linger in the office to talk to his boss or him whoever showed first. He finally calls me back because he sees me waiting outside his bosses office.

I opened by saying "sorry about that communication my brain was broke, this time of year is really hard for...." Was interrupted. Told "you're an adult, don't say that. I don't care about your reasons. I haven't read any emails you sent." Are you taking it or not?"

I've never had such a toxic statement come from the person who is supposed to look out for their employees wellbeing. They at least act like they have your best interest at heart.

Also getting confirmation you don't ever read anything I send.

I've dealt with toxicity before. But to directly be told I don't give a fuck about you is a bit much for me.

Machismo should be eradicated from the earth. Although I am sure they would say the same about sensitive ass men like me.

Tldr: What's an event that made you realize it was time to move in to another job?

I used to discover a lot of new music on Youtube, actually.
If you watched a music video you liked, the algorithm recommended related stuff, but also threw you a curveball with <1000 views once in a while.
I stumbled upon a lot of great bands that way.

But nowadays, 3 videos in it'll all be AI slop, so I'm open to new ideas and willing to pay for a service, too.

I have mild dyscalculia, but ive always been fine with words. Reading was always my strongest asset in school. I suck at math though.

I was wondering how big a detriment mild dyslexia is. I know a "NEET of 8 years" who basically won't try at anything because of this. I kind of feel like its an excuse to be lazy, but I can't say for sure.

My experience 😑High cost work with little to no accountability.

You can count on them doubling the estimate every single time, and you have to keep on them just to make sure the work gets done.

Just had one set of subcontractors throw away material for other fixes... Lead group days that the ones involved are no longer a part of the project, so we're on the hook for even more.

Thinking back, i have always been unhappy with the work done by a contractor. I'm not asking for much, painters paint an area, plumbers stop leaks, drywall dudes fix the water damage... And the job is always left with areas unpainted, pipes not connected, and holes in the drywall that were not there before.

Have you ever been happy with a contractors work? What did they do for you?
