There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to [email protected].

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to [email protected], however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

Title says it all

Like, do snakes even know youre their friend? From the people ive seen, they are still trying to kill you and wrap themselves around your neck, so why do people still keep them and talk to them as pets?

My guinea pig still sometimes runs away from me, but she at least likes me and and my voice and just stops eating if I dont speak to her every day to the point that I needed to force feed her nutrient slop, she lets me cuddle her, etc

And snakes are just like: I will kill you the second I see you

Freedom degrees. Roughly -13° or 38° if you live in the sane parts of the world.

I’d pick triple digits, mostly because I’ve lived in places that routinely hit 100° in the summer, and I hate shoveling snow.

I know there are new/needed community lemmy communities but are there things like, a community that is basically a todo list for the fediverse, so that we may strategically quickly build up a rivaling database to reddit and other fediverse paltforms.

I had just had a friendly and fun dinner with some Cuban VIPs because of a work thing. After dinner I was supposed to take a picture of the US and Cuban group together.

I tried to tell everyone "Say 'Cheese'" because I knew it would be odd but interesting to the Spanish speakers who were unfamiliar with American ways, but I don't speak Spanish very well.

I said, "Hablo Queso," which means 'I speak cheese.'

I’ve been a single momma for a few years now and I was thinking about getting a small tattoo of my son’s name/initial. Location wise I was thinking on my collar. I already have a few other small tattoos down my spine and on my sternum from when I was younger. Any suggestions?

Given the general Lemmy guideline that users should avoid posting more than 5–10 times per hour in a single community (to prevent flooding the overall network), would it make sense for Lemmy to implement some kind of Hourly Post Counter?

For example, a small indicator that shows how many posts a user has made to a given community in the past hour—like “3/10 posts this hour”—maybe visible when posting or on your profile.

Perhaps have it so that if users go over the limit, they get an error message.

It could help users stay within the community norms, especially since Lemmy doesn’t have as many active users as Reddit, and frequent posting can have a larger impact here.

Do you think this is a helpful idea?

Or would it just take up space?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

So Hi everyone, first of all let me just say sorry if u can't get my writing 😭.

I am from pakistan just turned 21 this june. I got very bad hair problems, I'll be attaching image for you guys to look and give me some manly advice without some social media shit like monoxdile, do this, this serum, this mask, this water and sooo on. So I got grey hairs already like 30 40 percentage of hairs are already grey so along with grey hairs i have got these issues: 1: Grey hairs (30 to 40%) 2: I got rough hairs 3: Started baldness if not wrong from front line. My front line hair are not growing well as you can see in the image. 4: I also got mostly dandruff issue but using shampoo like (selsun or selsum blue) or maybe Head and shoulder can mostly control it. 5: I have noticed that i guess my hair growth has been slowed down pretty well. 6: Mostly hair falls when ever i set hairs with my hands, if shampoo, and comb i got hairs falls like hell sometimes

So i need some real advice from people maybe doctors, one with same issues cured or uncured but not other shits.

How to deal with all this. I got pretty hectic routine going to start like night shift and studies so can't focus on routines. I do gym, i got good diet like very very low fast food consumption.

Exactly what should I use or do to make all these things under control maybe with a shampoo or product ? I do oiling as well like there is a oil named Tara meera oil that is like a pepper on a cut 💀 but u know what i want is to get a good hair not a very very good model like hair. Just good hailrs that i can grow, make them long aand style. That's it.

What will you guys suggest. Anyone with suggestions of any kind are welcome to deliver but try to avoid some fake social media and long care products and routine for hair as I can't really afford, as well as can't really focus and do. Most i can do is to oil hairs once a week, do shampoo or maybe conditioner if it is good for hair and use some easy suppliments like Evion that i take already. Tried 60 biotin tablets once from a company called nutrifactor but I don't think i get any results. So yeah this is it. Really appreciate if u guys can share your experience, your suggestions and things works for you. Thank again ❤️

I left lemm.ee and jumped to lemmy.today. The last day or so I've been getting errors of the site having expired certs and Voyager won't even connect.

Is this just me?

i'm learning norwegian as norway is a country my dad really likes, we have roots there and embrace it. dad speaks a bit and i'm a casual learner who started learning basic words as a child along with icelandic. I'm studying with the book "Norsk: Nordmenn og Norge 1" and I also want an app to help.

I wanted to be a programmer a few years ago but I just couldn't put my head around it. Considering AI is becoming a thing I made the right call there.

Just throwing out a thought for discussion:

Should Lemmy potentially add a profile status indicator that users can manually set—kind of like what platforms like Discord use?

For example, something where users can choose to display:

🟢 Online

🔴 Busy / Do Not Disturb

⚫ Invisible

⚪ Offline

--

Or even something custom, like:

Away

Lurking

"Work"

"[Enter Custom Text Here]"

etc.

It wouldn’t have to be real-time tracking, just a manual toggle in profile settings or next to your username.

Could be useful for signaling whether you're active, taking a break, or just want to lurk quietly without being pinged or messaged.

Would this be helpful, or does it go against Lemmy’s minimalist, federated design?

Curious what others think.

Weve all seen it, Lemmy is full of new accounts that just created their acc a few weeks ago. Is this a new exodus or something?

I think ar might be a dead dream in its current state, I always thought wed have proper ar glasses by now because I fell for Magic Leaps Marketting, not sure if it'll come anytime soon.

What I do believe is coming is the resurgence of computers through mobile phones. Everyone has a powerful computer in their pockets but isn't able to use them to their full potential. I wouldn't be suprised if android pushed out a proper android desktop experience letting android users get the full linux desktop experience when plugged into a monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Phone performance is stronger than the average laptops/netbooks from 10 years age and they run linux fine for everyday use. Feels like a missed opportunity if someone doesn't drop a phone or os that lets you take advantage of modern hardwares capability. They could advertise it to families, mo more buying a pc for school, just get them hardware for their existing device, it can already do everything. Schools could use lapdocks, or tabletdocks, that could force school parental controls on devices while at school and still let them use it for their education while in class.

(obviously not everyone has a phone but that frees up resources for the kids that dont, if the kids that do can use cheaper docks with their exisitnt hardware)

I am not from the US. Had my close relative fight with cancer. If not for the government which sponsored it almost fully, excluding a couple of procedures like PET, it would cost our family a lot. Just for the scale: pial for one infusion of one out of three drugs would cost us $8k and my relative would've needed 16 infusions.

My friend bought these off an old lady for essentially nothing.

They're really heavy too.

What brand are these?
