Und daran hat sich mit dem Erwachsenwerden auch nicht viel geändert, außer das Bürgergeld die längste Zeit mein Hauptpfeiler war. (Ich studiere mittlerweile, also jetzt BAföG)
Meine Erfahrungen sind super ähnlich, am Ende des Tages ist Geld in dieser Gesellschaft Existenz.
Vieles kann man auf verschiedenste Arten und Weißen kompensieren. Ich habe angefangen alles was Kaputt geht, nach Möglichkeit, zu reparieren. Die meisten Sachen die ich habe sind gebraucht, oder gefunden. Ich bin früher ausschließlich mit dem Fahrrad mobil gewesen, außer es ging nicht anders.
Aber seit dem ich selber wirtschafte, merke ich auch das gewisse Lebensnotwendigigkeiten ohne Geld nicht (legal) zu beschaffen sind. Dazu gehören hauptsächlich: Lebensmittel, Wohnraum, und gute medizinische Versorgung.
Also absolute Grundlagen.
Wer nicht arbeitsfähig und nicht anpassungsfähig ist, hat quasi kein reales Existenzrecht.
Oder: Die Gesellschaft lässt niemanden zurück, aber nur solange es keinen zu großen wirtschaftlichen Schaden verursacht.

Basically the incorporation of "useless" decorations and embellishments, to show off ones skill and maybe market oneself a little. Definitely superseded in the capitalist world. Things were just prettier or more interesting to look at, even stuff that wasn't meant to be flashy.
But with nearly everything being made to a price point, this practice has been somewhat lost.
