I mean, the NFTs worked pretty fucking well. Dude sold 45,000 of them for $99 a pop in under 24 hours. Obviously, they're a blatant grift, and anybody who bought one is a blithering idiot, but they were incredibly successful regardless. Turns out, a whole lot of blithering idiots love him and can't wait to give him their money for whatever useless bit of tat he deigns to throw at them.
As if to demonstrate the point, the gaudy monstrosity in that picture is already sold out, and they were listed at $399.
It’s just laundering Russian money
And Saudi money.
I can make 45,000 fake wallets and sell some NFTs to myself to make it look like there's demand too.
Exactly
Or just lie and say they sold out no one's actually checking.
This is the issue. Sure, we can laugh about all the ridiculous things Trump is grifting, but the fact of the matter is that they're working. Even if they're just money laundering schemes for foreign parties, as people seem convinced they are, they're still selling out in hours, which is a huge win for Trump. And honestly, I know of several republicans who would gladly spend their entire paycheck on some random trump-related thing just to "own the libs." I really think that most of these sales are legitimate, which is a very sobering window into how sad our country is right now.
A huge win in a PR sense, but nowhere near enough to cover all of his legal fees. And it's not like his campaign fees take precedent to him.
