The reason is even crazier

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Shinzo_Abe

Tl;dr the killer held a grudge against this religion (cult) which Abe helped spread in Japan. His mother had given all of the family's money to them and basically ruined the entire family's lives.

And succesfully using a makeshift gun at a rare occasion of Abe visiting his town. The whole story reeks of wtf moments. Reddit was mad when it started to uncover.

As an American I both respect and fear that man's ability to redneck engineer a working gun and kill a president

Surprisingly enough, makeshift guns are plentiful and incredibly ingenious. Some are even made with completely out of the box thinking.

I've seen guns made from these, steel pipes turned into single shot rifles and even muzzle loaders.

It wasn't mad as very angry. It was overly enthusiastic about sharing the first details of this hit and speculating about what the murderer's motives were, about the gun he made (and Japan is mostly gun-free since ww2), about Abe's links to moonies, about moonies, what are they compared to scientology and other cults. Threads exploded with comments. And one of the point that made many arguments by itself: was the killer right or not.

Whats even 🤪 is that Japan actually has a very strong history of reposinding to presidential killers goals

That's quite impressive for a nation that doesn't have a President.

(The Emperor is the Head of State. The government is led by the Prime Minister.)

I think they were implying that Japan supported either John Wilkes Booth, or Lee Harvey Oswald? I can't imagine they'd support the attempt of John Hinkley Jr. or John Flammang Schrank. The dudes didn't finish the job.

Why does every presidential assassin have 3 names?

Why does every presidential assassin have 3 names?

To avoid someone else facing repercussions for the crime, no matter how unlikely that there's gonna be someone named Lee John Oswald, there might be.

(You could argue that since Oswald is dead, this shouldn't be a problem, but that's where the logic comes from)

Lee John Oswald at the DMV a year later trying to renew his license.

LJO - I assure you I'm not dead.

DMV Worker - That's not what the system says. It also days you shot President Kennedy. If you wanted a license you shouldn't have done that.

LJO - That wasn't me. That was Lee HARVEY Oswald.

In this case, the assassin had a pretty good point and the people took it seriously. Turns out a lot of people had been scammed by said cult.
