"Experts" will tell you that in China, the "small fishes" get caught because they don't have someone higher up to back them; the "big fishes" get caught due to political infighting and they get to "retire in prison" because they get a reprieve and aren't executed.
They will also tell you that when you see a cockroach, there will be countless more in the shadows, implying that the entire system is very corrupt when you see corruption of this magnitude being reported.
They throw this line of thinking out the window when it comes to the US, because it is the bastion of democracy and leader of the free world, and any mistakes will be self-corrected by the democratic system.
Forgot to mention, the day before this there was a court hearing for Tian Huiyu, former head of China Merchants Bank, who also took bribes worth 210 million yuan, probably another death sentence with reprieve.
