Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

spoilerNope, you were just way more annoying than you generally care to remember. Sorry you had to find out this way.

spoilerIf you say, "but actually I wasn't annoying as a teenager." Sorry, you missed your chance! Not my problem!

Same. I'm actually quite fond of Zoomers, on the whole. They're way more suspicious of the kind of "grindset" nonsense that millennials inexplicably embraced. They're also much more vocally and materially supportive of their trans/disabled/neurodivergent comrades than any generation before them.

Oh absolutely, although I have to admit I teach in the city, in a school with a lot of diversity, both when it comes to ehtnicity and gender (although the group is smaller), so that's just my experience with zoomers. This of course doesn't describe their entire generation, the fascist party here is set to win with about 20%(!) of the votes in '24 with zoomers and millenials as a large base of support (tho that says more about their material conditions, education and the fascist propaganda effort)

That being said, I experience them as way more accepting towards people who stray from the 'norm' than when I was their age, and I'm 30 now. That and their memes are just next level chefs-kiss

My theory is that grindset was one reaction to the 2008 crash that took a while to manifest

Yes. I think they have a generational tendency to call us out on our bullshit as the planet is literally burning and that makes many uncomfortable. Which is good.

What I don't get is the parents of these same people ignoring them and their justified calls to fix our shit. Here I was always thinking we humans were supposed to care for our kids.
