So you came away from your visit to a modern country of over a billion people with a booming economy and brand new infrastructure and your takeaway was “these people don’t care about each other” and “they don’t have any food” despite the massive trade surplus and conspicuous lack of homelessness?

I saw lipstick on a pig.  I saw air you couldn't breathe.  I saw the markets selling spoiled meat.  I saw a girl who had her legs chopped off by her father.  I met a father, who had his baby ripped out of his wife and his wife killed, and then he was paralyzed by officials for daring to complain. Yeah, it's a shit hole. Keep telling yourself that it's great it's not.
I saw water you couldn't drink. I saw pharmaceuticals selling tainted product to vulnerable populations. I saw school children butchered as the police stood idly by listening to them scream and beg for help. I saw little girls forced to carry their abuser's baby to term while officials gleefully laughed. Keep telling yourself it's the greatest nation on earth, it's not.
