Man, I feel they did him so dirty on Star Trek: Picard. It could've been much better. Sigh.

I don't want to criticize him too harshly since he's dead, but he had a ton of input into the writing of Star Trek: Picard, and it wasn't for the better.

Nah, I posted above about it, but it's where he wanted Picard to go since early TNG. He asked the writers to have Picard do more 'fucking and fighting' and they wrote the Risa episode under a mandate to get Picard laid. He played the character well but didnt seem to understand the character.

He did himself dirty. Even in early TNG he was bothering producers for Picard to do more 'fighting and fucking' and that's where the Risa episode came from, a mandate to get his character laid. As he gained greater leverage the character drifted further away from what he was. He became Action Hero Guy in the movies, partially at his behest and partially cause the tng movies where kind of a mess. I genuinely cried when I heard that he died, and there are people that I know irl who died and I didnt cry over. But i'm not gonna refrain from criticizing his creative choices regarding star trek because of it either. It is what it is, I never held it against him personally and putting myself in his shoes, I can get where he was coming from. From being a huge trekkie and hearing enough quotes from or about Patrick Stewart, he was sorta half Picard half his character from American Dad. Blunt Talk is an underrated show of his.

    Same.

Roddenberry's work was the first material to shed light on the contradictions and amorality of the liberal moral framework my family and education were coaching me into.

It was the first material to spark the idea for me that a better world is possible.

Patrick Stewart was the face of that, and he turned out to be substantially not awful as an individual, as well.
