[+] gilokee@lemmy.world -15 points 13 hours ago (7 children) gimp fucking sucks though. permalink fedilink source hideshow 7 child comments replies: [–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago (3 children) I don't think it sucks, but people thinking it's painful to use ought to be taken as legitimate feedback instead of blind hate. It's a weird UI. I want to like it but I can barely use it even when I force myself to. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] Krudler@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago* (1 child) It really does suck, it is one of the worst tools ever made. I have the resume to back this up, I worked in digital media for over 30 years, and was a professional developer for 20. Gimp is an appalling piece of shit, it is a joke. No professional artist who has access to proper tools would ever choose to use it. These are the facts. Gimp is "better than nothing" but just barely. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago I myself started my career as a web designer. I'm well versed in Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, and premiere. Part of what makes those tools good is their fairly consistent UI choices and easy to remember shortcut keys, many of which feel intuitive and based on something. Gimp definitely lacks some features, but I'd be happy to use it if it had a UI that didn't break my brain. I do not think you're being super fair about your assessment. Every time I've needed it for anything, assuming I had the time and patience, I've been able to do what I needed to in terms of editing with layers, applying effects, etc. But it was always fairly uncomfortable. So yeah I don't think it's an objective fact that no one would ever use it because it's the worst software ever. permalink fedilink source parent [–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 point 8 hours ago i used to love gimp, but around gimp 2.0 the other free image editing software worked better for what i needed permalink fedilink source parent [–] DragonOracleIX@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 hours ago Totally agree with you. I struggle to use it because it doesn't function the way I expect it to when I am trying to edit something. Still have it installed anyways because it has decent gif support. permalink fedilink source parent [–] architect 0 points 11 hours ago* (1 child) It does and I’m dying on this hill with you. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] Agrivar@lemmy.world -1 points 10 hours ago Good riddance to you both. permalink fedilink source parent
