It's a bad analogy.

But either way we're gonna get the bleach soon

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (4 children)

But why make it more likely sooner? Im really not convinced the USA will ever stop being a fascist dictatorship once it takes hold.

You're assuming too much active agency on the part of voters on the American political process. Politics does not happen on election day. Voting does not deliver results. People who (rightfully) did not like Joe Biden because of literally his entire political career but voted for him anyway got what to show for it? Kids still in cages now 3 years later and Roe v Wade overturned without a fight and used as a fundraising tool by the craven ghouls in the Democratic Party.

It is a waste of time and energy to vote for Joe Biden, much less try to convince other people to vote for him. If an American slide into fascism is inevitable, he and the Democratic Party are not only incapable of doing anything about it, but unwilling to.

I'm a 1 issue voter. I don't vote for politicians who voted for the war in Iraq and enabled/cheerled the bush admin into murdering a million people in the middle east out of a racist desire for veangence.

If the dems want my vote they can nominate someone who didn't do that horrible shit.

In a fight, it is good to keep both hands up to guard blows and both feet on the ground to keep yourself upright, but eventually you are going to need to throw a punch or a kick unless you just want to get slowly beaten down, even though throwing a strike makes you more vulnerable in the short term.

You're kind of missing the point. What are you doing to stop fascism outside of bourgeois elections? Because voting D will never stop fascism.

Im running for my local school board to prevent Moms from Liberty candidates from taking a spot.

What are you doing?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Okay so you're participating in local bourgeois elections.

Supporting my local dsa in tenant organizing, union organizing, and municipal organizing. You know, actually building a base of power to challenge Republicans because the democrats never will.

We're also taking over local offices. But we're doing it together as an organized block that's actually able to exert power, because we've actually built power.

Im doing more than voting though. Are you running for office yourself? Are your candidates winning?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Im doing more than voting though.

I never claimed you weren't, Im claiming that you're limiting political engagement solely to participating in bourgeois elections (voting, running, etc)

Are you running for office yourself?

No, I, a trans woman, am not running for school board while fascists are screaming about how all trans women are pedophiles. I would like to not get stochastic murdered.

Are your candidates winning?

Enough of them are that we are close to cementing power.

I will point out that you did not interface with the bulk of my comment, which is about building power. How are you building community power?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Right now Im in the suburbs so things like tenant unions are difficult since almost everyone owns their homes and right now the best path for the community is keeping fascists out of power while trying to get the overtly racist town board members out of office.

We are having some luck with the latter as those racists have cost the town a bunch money recently and voters are pissed.
