    Also, for whatever reason (capitalism?) searching 529 also searches bikeindex, but bikes registered on 529 do not appear on bikeindex https://project529.com/garage/

    this is useless. nobody does this or keeps a database of them.

    the only use it has is for warranty claims, or if you have it for you own bike you can use to verify you own it with the police, if they reclaim it. but that virtually never happens.

    it's not like chipping your pet where there is a universal standard to which authorities/vets can reference and your ownership is encoded in the database.
