How did the car know it was a "ghost gun?" Would the car have attempted to persecute them for having a legally-permitted gun, too?

Edit: yes, probably. From the article Cousin Mose linked:

A spokesperson told the LA Times that a “violation of our terms of service involving a firearm” was detected.

So the takeaway is, the more services like this proliferate, the more even legal gun owners' Second Amendment rights will be practically curtailed.

Name how or what would be different compared to a ride share with a human, or a taxi?

Robotaxis are NOT unattended — a human has a video feed into the cab of the car. It was a human that called the police.

My criticisms extend to those, too, if they have the same policy. But they very well may not, since taxis are actually regulated (as opposed to these new services that are somehow magically different for "reasons").

Meanwhile, legitimate public transit allows legal carrying. Example: "MARTA follows the State’s laws on carrying weapons."

So you're saying that your right to carry a firearm overrides the rights of a property owner to decide whether you're allowed on their private property? If someone was to get into your car while carrying something that was legal for them to carry but that you didn't want in your car, you shouldn't be allowed to eject them?

A human can stop you from entering the car in the first place. You can tell the human “hey I’m going to the shooting range.” and they can go “nah sorry.” There’s nobody in the robot taxi so it can’t. What are you gonna do? Talk to the car and tell it about your plans at the range? There’s no other humans in the car to be at risk or even just afraid.

Waymo taxis can indeed talk to the people inside them. They can also connect you to a remote human operator if you want to "talk to a supervisor."

If your rule is "no guns in my car" why do you think saying "but I'm just going to the shooting range" makes a difference?

And those people are only going to do something AFTER you enter the car. A human can stop you from even entering the car in the first place/kick you out immediately.

I'm really not clear what point you're trying to make. If I manage to conceal a gun until I'm inside your car you can't kick me out? Or there's some sort of time limit on being able to kick me out?

  • Why would anyone un conceal the gun just because I’m in your car? The gun was likely the same level of concelead, it just took the cameras longer to detect what it was. A human can go “hey what’s that?” And when you tell them it’s a gun they can say no thanks. Are the humans monitoring the robo taxis really going to be that much of a person about it? They’re going to wait until they’re certain it’s a gun before doing something about it.

Also in some states you legally can ignore no firearms signs. A. If they’re not the right size/format or B. Concealed carry permits can just override them in some places. Not sure how it applies to a taxi. But in theory I can just ignore a no firearms sign on a restaurant. But that’s a concealed carry. Ain’t nobody concealing a full size rifle. Especially when getting into a car.

I'm saying that a corporation providing a transportation service to the public is an entirely different fucking situation than an actual human in their home. Corporations providing services can and should be regulated to ensure fairness. Look up the phrase "common carrier."

What's next? You want robotaxis to be allowed to refuse to carry colored people? 'Cause that's the equivalent of the argument you're trying to make!

Your car is your home? Sorry, didn't realize you were so hard up.

You want robotaxis to be allowed to refuse to carry colored people?

Did you know there's a law specifically prohibiting discrimination on that basis? There isn't a similar law for guns. It is not an "equivalent argument" and trying to compare carrying a gun to having a particular skin colour is frankly bonkers.

Says the person that base their entire argument on cc/oc being equal to waving around a fucking ar inside of a cab

    Lmao clown

I didn't realize you were an ancap who thinks movement should be privatized and corporate overlords should be allowed to control every fucking aspect of our lives.

We are outsourcing our laws to unaccountable corporate Terms of Service. That should fucking terrify and outrage everyone, regardless of whether the topic is gun-related or not!

Again with a giant leap from A to B.

Nobody said you had to get in a waymo bro.

I suspect you’ll have the same outcome in a uber or yellow cab.

Nobody said you had to get in a waymo bro.

Nobody said you had to have a smart TV that spied on you, bro. Except oops, that's the only option the "free market" provides these days. Corporate abuse does not magically become okay just because you can theoretically choose to avoid it!

Again, what the fuck is with everybody suddenly becoming ancaps the second I actually suggest that maybe a corporation doesn't have the right to do whatever abusive shit it wants!? It's like all your brains get short-circuited just because the situation happens to involve a gun.

What's that got to do with Waymo? It's a taxi service. Are taxi drivers employed by the government where you live or something?

So capitalism-brained you've never heard of public transit, SMH.

Why should Waymo be allowed to use the public roads when it obstructs the rights of its customers? What the fuck happened to consumer protection law?
