Not to be that guy, because yes look into that because ice and stuff... But
Seven in the entire US? Yes they are black but that's a significant portion of the people in the us. Suicide often happens by hanging and that they do it where they will be found is not uncommon either. So the numbers kinda suggest this might just be daily tragedy in the US.
More kids die from school shootings every day in the us.
How many people hang themselves on trees in the US?
Suicide method is highly preferential, meaning that if someone is prevented from their chosen method, the vast majority simply do not commit suicide. We've seen this over and over - not just on a personal level, if you install prevention measures on a popular suicide spot the local rate of suicide goes down
For men in the US, guns are the most common method (pills for women). Hanging isn't uncommon, but doing so outside is
It's also highly cultural. In more collectivist countries, public suicide happens much more. The US is very individualistic, so while people will jump from bridges and such, it tends to be done in private spaces. Doing it as a public display just isn't as common here
Not to mention the fact that the cases I've read about have been sketchy as hell... Very speedy investigation, ignoring signs like bruising and contusions, no mention of alcohol or drugs
And finally, it's lynching. There's certainly cultural weight to lynching as a method of group murder, especially of certain groups
So no... Seven people choosing is too few for it to be a new chosen method in the zeitgeist - if it were dozens, that would be far more convincing. This is sketchy as hell
Point of clarification: lynching is not a method of killing, but a kind of murder. Hanging stands out in the popular imagination as the form of lynching in America but it isn't the only form and the terms aren't equivalent.
A method of killing and a method of murder are the same damn thing.
Lynching doesn't have to end by hanging, but that's a traditional Hallmark
It's group murder. Or group killing, I guess if you want to phrase it in a less charged manner for some reason
This is the question I'd like the answer to before I'm going to get too worked up about this one. What are the stats that have led to this statement? Hanging from a tree certainly isn't the way I'd do it and seems like it'd be fairly difficult to pull off on your own compared to other methods but I'm not knowledgeable enough to claim a conspiracy over that. All hangings/deaths should of course be investigated thoroughly.
Elsewhere in this thread someone was citing the CDC and it was a lot. Looking it up myself, 48,824 total in 2024, and 11,453 were by suffocation (including hanging, but not just hanging), so that's 23.5%. Suicide rate for Black Americans is about 8.7 per 100k, Black population is about 51.6 million (or 516 100ks) so figure 4489 completed suicides per year. If the number carries, that's 1055 by suffocation. But a paper by Choi et al from 2022 seems to say Black people are about 10% less likely to use this method than White people, so maybe it's closer to 950. A paper by Yau and Paschall from 2018 gives trees as the most popular anchor points for suicide by hanging, though that is a bare plurality at 9.7%. Still, Yau says 90.7% of suicide by suffocation is hanging, and from my look at the numbers that's 8.8% of suicide by suffocation. So based on all that, if 950 Black Americans commit suicide by suffocation per year, we'd expect about 83.6 to do so by hanging themselves from a tree. Also there are known patterns of physical trauma that one will typically see in a body when someone deliberately hangs themself vs when this is done as an attack on a person (Kryezi 2022 mentions some). None of this is to say that every death we believe is a suicide actually is, but this particular method is not so rare or hard to identify that even half a dozen a month would seem improbable.
Proceeds to be "that guy."
As hills go, man. I'm not sure I would've died on this one, sheesh.
They are also a zionist, this hill is their home turf
Fucks sake
Proof? Looking through their comment history, they read "enlightened centrist" which is certainly not a great look, but I didn't see a zionist take. Just some pretty pathetic "I've thought about things" and "murder is always bad, which is why we shouldn't threaten the lives of anyone including mass murderers who will probably never see consequences in their lifetimes" ones
I considered myself a centrist until the last 20 years happened. Opposition to the statement "no one should be lynched" should not exist in a sane society. BLM and "ANTIFA" being targeted should have been enough to open all eyes, but the propaganda+ brainwashing is robust & people are stupid. Tough equation.
That’s a really awful take on the situation, you deserve more down votes than I’m allowed to give
African Americans do not hang themselves from trees in public places. They know better. They know what that implies
Many, maybe even most, suicidial people do not think about all of that. It's why some throw themselves in front of a train or jump off a building in daylight despite this causing severe trauma to bystanders.
They are in an acute crisis and for the most part cannot think of anything but ending their life. Whoever will find their corpse is often not a concern whatsoever.
We can control for location of the hanging. We just need a little more data.
How many hangings in the US over the same time period as the "seven" mentioned above in similar locations: in public, from trees.
I'd bet that those seven are disproportionately represented in that data set.
Yeah, my doctor said they had detected traces of cancer in my body, and I was like, pssh, statistically doc, I ain't worried about it.
I mean, talk about a worrier. I don't think people even die of cancer?
Your argument doesn't hold water. The means of death here - hung from a tree - is statistically significant when it comes to suicides AND murders. The fact that none of these were investigated is also unusual. And then we add the fact that this specfic kind of death has been used historically, up through the present, as a means of communicating racism, prejudice, and intimidation. Combined, it is compelling evidence for foul play.
You are now that guy. Tagging you as a racist.
Only 7? So, does that mean you have an acceptable number of lynchings? What is it? 20? 100? 10,000? The population of black and brown people maybe?
And these are just the ones we're aware of. And the media will be like "dO yOu SuPpOrT dEfUnD tHe PoLiCe?"
You sound like you probably watch the multiple videos of officers beating essentially children who are complying at traffic stops and then cheer or claim there's no problem or that they deserved it.
And to address your whataboutism, more people die from car accidents. Even more than that die from our current healthcare system. Yes. Those are all problems. All of which are perpetuated or made worse by rich, conservative white people too. But they're not what's being discussed here.
I mean agree or not (I personally don't feel like I can make an informed conclusion here) but that's clearly not what they're saying. They're arguing that these could just be suicides rather than lynchings.
Pretty unusual for those attempting suicide to do it in public places.
Even more unusual and very difficult to also bind your feet and hands before doing so too.
While circumstantial, most of us I feel have enough information to form a conclusion. Similar to the fact that our president is a pedophile.
It's also 7 this year so far. There were more cases last year. And they've been on the rise in recent years.
MAGA songs even explaining how to do it. With 2 cases showing up shortly after the song releases. 🙃

I mean, fair enough, but there's no reason/justification for tearing into the top commenter before at least hearing them out.
Don't platform people like that. If you're going to ask such a sensitive thing, do your research first. Stop allowing idiots to just ask questions when they're not really just doing that
Ask what?
Go fuck yourself.
Thank you for not helping at all 👍
You can go fuck yourself too, chud.
Lol
I don't have time to unpack how abject it is to care about one of those groups of people but not the other, somehow, so I'm just going to jump on the bandwagon here with my own phrasing:
You have failed to follow Wheaton's Law, and it would behoove you to do so in the future.
Are you deadass? Whataboutism?
Don't be that guy
Bro you again? lol
