in the early 00's I dated a girl who was really into anime. cosplaying and all that. one year i drove her and her and a couple of her friends to anime expo in anahiem.

my god.

the drugs and sex were everywhere. every night in the hotel it was like a mini orgy. just 10+ people per room, no one slept. I either spent my time at the 24 hour Arcade they had set up there or sleeping on the balcony cause you couldn't sleep in the beds.

Those anime kids love to fuck and get high.

Yeah people unfamiliar might be surprised, but weebs and furries party super hard. They just need some like-minded people they can trust. And about a week to recover.

Can confirm. I used to party with the anime club from a college not far from home and that's where I learned that mdma is a lot of fun, it's also how I learned that I'm an alcoholic.

I got a glimpse into that world while playing VR Chat in that Furry convention hotel . It was a lot of fun

So, like, what do I do to get started into the new community I've just recently discovered I have a deep passion for?

[-] Forester@pawb.social 4 points 1 day ago

If you had to pick a mascot to represent your personal brand of quirkiness general attitude and ambitious, what animal / mythical creature would it be?

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 3 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

I've thought about this, and I really don't know. I think I'm too self conscious to actually pick one, because I'd only be able to focus on negative aspects haha

ETA: Asked a friend of a friend who's a furry to ask me questions and help determine what I'd be.

He says otter or beaver lol

Does the fursona need to represent you physically? Because if so, I feel like I'd be misrepresenting myself a bit, both those animals are small, and I'm a very large person (6'3/191cm, broad shouldered, and 270lbs/122kg), and they're both quite furry, whereas I have basically no hair at all on my head or body lol

[-] Forester@pawb.social 3 points 18 hours ago

More spirit animal than physical, also amazon river otters exist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_otter

Just FYI otters tend to have a slutty reputation in the community.... same with foxes...

[-] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 1 points 15 hours ago

I'm leaning more and more towards otter lmao

To find communities in your local area, Telegram group chats are usually the place. They can be a bit hard to get into, I'm sure you'd be welcomed in but you typically need someone in the group to invite you.

For online spaces most furries are unfortunately on Bluesky right now, but I hate that place so I throw in with the furries on Mastodon, they're really cool people

I have been doing Anime Expo wrong, apparently!

[-] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago

Obviously so was he, he was in the arcade instead of the orgy

Homie needed his sleep

[-] grue@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago

He was there with his girlfriend, yet he was in the arcade instead of the orgy!

[-] rozodru@piefed.world 15 points 1 day ago

wasn't my thing, plus she was cheating on me anyways with just about everyone. we broke up a couple months later. I was young and dumb.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago

Who let the anime convention promoter in here? Guy isn't even trying to play it cool.

[-] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

How are anime people this insane, and this...rich?

They pitch in/save up/hang out with one or two rich kids. It's 10 people to a room with nowhere to sleep, they can't be that rich

So this might be the origin of the rumored "VTuber orgies"...

(Some VTubers started out as cosplayers, then changed medium once the pandemic hit)

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
