I made a replacement stand for the compost bin - with dovetails!

The base is dovetailed at the corners and the uprights are lapped in. I have to complicate everything.
I've never tried dovetails, I could only hope to do as well. I'd probably just do a corner brace and call it done, though.

Same here! The wood is thick and really wet right from the hardware store. I cut the joinery using panel saws because the teeth of my back saws were too fine. It came out pretty good, even if it's utilitarian.
Fingers crossed they stay straight on you as they dry out.
