Is there an updated Version of the Mozilla Foundation's EV Review?
Overview:
Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. This community is where we discuss the various different vehicles and news stories regarding electric transportation.

This is not an EV review. It's all cars.
You should assume that every brand of new car except Slate is collecting every piece of data they possibly can. Spend your time figuring out which ones can be disabled without major impact on functionality instead.
I wouldn't be surprised if Slate had a secret modem, tbh. It's backed by Bezos, so I would assume the worst until someone not affiliated with the company can conclusively prove that they aren't collecting driving/charging/location info.
That would be very dumb because someone would certainly find it immediately.
Sure, if it were a discrete component. I don't see any reason it couldn't be integrated into a separate component like the dashboard display, motor controllers, or something like that.
I recognize this is a crazy paranoid line of thought, but we live in a society run by surveillance capitalists and I'm of the belief that we shouldn't give Bezos the benefit of the doubt. If his name weren't attached to the prophecy, I'd be more willing to trust Slate.
Doesn't matter where it is, all you have to do is look for radio signals.
Oh, fair point lol
Just pop out the headliner and unplug the data antenna under the sharkfin. Or, cover the sharkfin with metal foil duct sealing tape.
The car will work fine. Most KIA models allow you to opt out of data collection.
At some point, this will be a sales feature.
Very few modern vehicles have a "sharkfin". And the Faraday cage isn't necessarily effective. Best thing to do is to disable the telematics module or find some way to remove the SIM (assuming it's not eSIM).
Do you have more info on this?
