Angus Morton crouches behind a cricket pavilion in a London park to snip stinging nettles from an unkempt patch of greenery.

“They’re so abundant and they’re so good,” says Morton, a regenerative gardener who pops out once a week to forage bits for dinner. “I use them in pesto, tea … I’ve even seen someone putting them in croquetas.”

Morton, who posts regularly about his foraging exploits online, is one of a growing number of people venturing into the wild in search of food. He says he shaves hundreds of pounds off his food bill each month, fermenting pine needles to carbonate drinks, picking ivy for soap and harvesting wild mushrooms for dinner.

I absolutely don't trust people to do the right thing. This sort of publicity will attract so-called influencers who are going to trample over plants for a cheap photo op to get their clout fix.

Also, I do wonder if, say, a call centre worker would have the time and energy to go forage for their dinner after they get off their shift.

It's such a wonderful thing to be in harmony in nature but living in a capitalist society designed to squeeze as much as possible from the average person, it is unfortunately out of reach for those who'd benefit the most from it.

At that point you quit your job, go live as a hermit in the woods, and die of dysentery at 38.

Hell, it's starting to sound better than the modern lifestyle.
