Hexbear users tend to like DPRK, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or North Korea. Pyongyang is the capital city of DPRK.

DPRK is heavily sanctioned and censored by the West. There is a lot of misinformation spread about DPRK, sometimes positive, sometimes negative. An example of positive misinformation would be all the twitter accounts making up fake Kim Jong Un quotes.

DPRK is communist and practices Juche.

There are websites hosted in DPRK that are accessible internationally. DPRK owns the .kp TLD. Every website that ends with .kp is hosted in DPRK.

Linking directly to websites hosted in DPRK could demystify the western perspective of DPRK. To combat western narratives, all posts on the comm should contain a link to a .kp website or archive of a .kp website.

The concept of the comm is simple. Visit a DPRK website, find something you like, post the link to the page on hexbear. Optionally screenshot the page or archive it with an archive website.

Hexbear has a China comm, so why not have a DPRK comm?

here's a current list of DPRK websites. https://archive.is/RT91h

These webpages tend to post new stuff daily, so the comm would never run out of content.

You're describing the opposite of what my intended purpose is. I want the comm to exist so that more people can see things that are posted on the comm. Also I want other people to participate.

Imagine you get a new bicycle and you think "I'll ride this bicycle around town and other people will think it's cool and maybe even I could find some other people who also have bicycles and we can ride around together."

Then someone tells you "If you ride the bicycle outside, it will get dirty. Also if other people see you riding that bicycle, they might mock you or try to attack you. It would be better if you kept your bicycle inside your house forever, so that it stays clean and doesn't get stolen."

I could sit on a bicycle inside of my house but then it's more of an uncomfortable chair than a bicycle at that point.

Maybe a couple people will try to vandalize the comm and get banned. I optimistically hope that doesn't happen. LemmyWorld is already defederated, so I'm not that worried.

I don't even expect every user who posts on the comm to like DPRK. I only hope that people keep an open mind and follow all of the hexbear rules.

I have a positive view of DPRK and I have seen some things posted on DPRK sites that I didn't agree with. That's okay. Nobody has to agree 100% with DPRK. I want the comm to be about observing the DPRK perspective.

Getting banned from r/Pyongyang is a prexisting gag and badge of honor on reddit. Naming the comm as c/Pyongyang despite it not being about Pyongyang specifically and the convention on this site being to use the Country or Region names rather than cities for comms seems like it's deliberate intention is to attract trolls.
