[Someone] = Stereotypical leftist adjacent person who (semi)frequents the mainstream web. Curious in this whole socialism thing, has very little theoretical knowledge.

Scenario: They've come to you complaining about the quality of their time online worsening and how they're looking for what they say is a "Open-Minded Community" They have already tried places like r/socialism and say: "They're way too snobby and book heavy."

You ask them what they think about socialism and they say: "Well I don't really know, but Zahran seems pretty cool, maybe it's possible to have a good version of it." "I know the Soviet Union failed, but given how tyrannical Stalin was, maybe it's because they had bad leaders."

What would be your approach be?

I would try running a s*les routine

Where do you normally go to discuss ideas about lefter politics if not r/socialism? It sort of sounds like you're disillusioned with it.

I know something I love about watching Mamdani run NY is that people get to laugh and make memes about him. Do you ever get funny socialist content or is it all the stuffy navel gazing that Reddit is famous for?

I'd just try to make sure in asking about their desire to post and indulge their curiosity about theory and not dig into their desire for community and what atomization has done for them. I'm selling a druidic Internet cult, not converting them to tbe dark side (thinking healthcare is... le good!). Trawling the general mega thread for @KuroXppi@hexbear.net post or the funny emotes would be the best bet. Maybe hope that the news is some Republican shitting themself instead of the orphan grinding machine being the headline so you see someone being clever instead of wishing for counter-death
