Kind of tangentially related to the tweet, but who thought it was a good idea to teach kids to associate sharing with punishment?
I think it's because they don't just want one or several kids eating. It's distracting and the kids will get all whiny and fight. It's the teacher's job to teach them the subject and the parent's job to teach them to not be whiny and fighty.
Natural consequence of capitalism, it isn't that sharing is bad - it's that sharing costs money. This leaves it to the individual to decide, and when money is tied to whether or not you eat/have a roof over your head... you get the picture.
How does this associate sharing with punishment?
Literal Pavlovian conditioning.
By threatening to make them share as a punishment for eating in class.
