All good points. We spent a good part of our class time examining Christianity’s importance in the medieval history courses I took in college. Like you said, the eastern empire chugged right along no problem. There were plenty of more convincing factors than some emperors deciding to worship a corpse.

I only made that original comment because I’m watching Vikings slop right now, and it’s interesting to consider the illiterate saxons and franks being completely ignorant of who had built the walls they lived within.
