Just have him be one of the suitors stuffing his face and crackling, then when Odysseus shows up he hides in a corner and is like "okay bro I wasn't trying to fuck your wife I was just here for the food."

I think it worked well for this movie but yeah he himself said he wasn't really acting so much as playing the part.

Which is also true for a few much more successful and much less interesting actors, to be fair.
