My dismissiveness is a sincere, considered position

Really? You want to reference any of your previous comments to show where that sincerity and consideration exists?

[-] charonn0@startrek.website 1 points 13 hours ago

Can you point to a comment where I am not?

[-] Goodeye8@piefed.social 1 points 13 hours ago

I went back all the comments to pick one but in the end I found I could point to almost every comment in this tree as an example. In fact I found it easier to point where you came closest to actually being sincere.

If it is malware then harshness is justified, but I’d be willing to debate over the strict definition of malware and whether it technically applies here.

But even that you got ready to reject before you had even finished the sentence and followed up with this.

But I don’t think most of the harshness we’ve seen is actually borne of that kind of outrage.

So please, do point where your sincerity and consideration is.

Can you point to a comment that you would describe as insincere, and can you explain why you think so?

[-] Goodeye8@piefed.social 2 points 11 hours ago

This comment you just made. Like what the fuck are we doing here? You made the claim you're sincere, the burden of proof is on you. If you were genuinely sincere how is it this hard to point at a single fucking thing you yourself said? You don't even have to remind yourself what you've said, the entire history of your comments is right here, just scroll up.

But no, you have to go play some fucking ring around the rosie to try and make me somehow prove you weren't sincere. This doesn't even need any further explanation, it should be obvious why this is not sincere.

We're doing exactly what I've been criticizing the rest of the fediverse for doing. There are no stakes here. Neither of us have been harmed or otherwise inconvenienced by the other. Yet we're ramping up the outrage. We've abandoned all discussion of the original topic and are nitpicking over the tone of adjacent comments. Stoking outrage has become the point.

Be honest, does that sound about right? Does that sound familiar? Isn't that what always happens in these sorts of discussions? It's not healthy, and I perceive the same rotten motivation in much of the community responses to this tesseract case.

I can't and don't approve of, excuse, or defend the actions of the tesseract dev. I do empathize with him though. I can understand the impulse to double down and lash out. That's just human psychology. So I don't fault the dev for feeling that way, even if I do fault their actions. But I deem the fault to be immaturity, not malice.

I do think that, had the community not gone straight to the outrage memes, that perhaps things would have shaken out differently. If tesseract is/was as popular with the community as the level of outrage suggests, then it would seem that losing the developer of that software is a net loss for the community.

Had the dev been more mature... well they probably wouldn't have gotten themselves into this mess in the first place. But had they been more mature in the aftermath, and had the community been more forgiving, then the situation might have resolved amicably to everyone's benefit. Instead, we traded a valued community member for outrage memes.

This I sincerely believe. This I have given due consideration. This I am willing to discuss and be persuaded against, if a person can be found who honestly disagrees with most of what I've just said and can explain why.

Wow.

You gaslit me to make a point about how stoking outrage has become the point...

Yeah, fair enough, I guess you have a point then and you have been sincere the whole time. Now I'm regretting not keeping in that the only way you could be sincere is if you're a sincere asshole, because turns out that's exactly the kind of sincere you are. Because I did write that at one point and then I deleted it before posting because I thought "surely they're not that big of a piece of shit so out of respect for them I shouldn't insinuate that's what they are".

Turns out I was wrong. That's exactly who you are. In hindsight it makes perfect sense. No wonder you wouldn't empathize with how the community even reached this point. It also explains why you'd turn into such a troll when others get annoyed by you. It even explains why you're somehow empathizing with the tesseract dev, because you're cut from the same cloth.

So yeah, I've been convinced you are sincere and have given it consideration. I've also been convinced there is no persuading you to believe otherwise because those beliefs come from the core of who you are. To be open to change your opinion on that matter would be to be open to change as a person and I seriously doubt you're open to that. I don't even know where to go from here. I've never reached an end of the discussion feeling like this is someone I never want to interact again. But there has been an upside to this as well. I couldn't understand why people would parade being on that banlist, because in the end it's just a banlist someone put together. However after this discussion I understand why so I'll peace out with that little nugget of truth because that's about the only useful takeaway from this whole thing.

Calling me names rather than addressing any of the points I raised only serves to demonstrate the points I've raised.

If that's all you took away from my post then calling you what you are is a sincere and considered position.
