I was so uncomfortable watching that smarter every day video where his son only calls him "sir". Maybe it's a regional thing but it seemed super authoritarian and gross to me.

Yea I think it was Will Ferrell making fun of boomer fathers that did that I'm parroting here. But also I vaguely recall something like that watching old disney live actions. I wanna say scenes fromn Heidi, but that could have also been because she was an unconforming girl.
