Assata Shakur, born on this day in 1947, is a revolutionary socialist and former member of the Black Liberation Army (BLA) who became the first woman to be added to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2013.

Shakur grew up in New York City and Wilmington, North Carolina. She became involved in political activism at Borough of Manhattan Community College and City College of New York, participating in sit-ins and civil rights protests.

After graduating from college, Shakur briefly joined the Black Panther Party, leading its Harlem chapter. She left the Panthers and joined the Black Liberation Army, a black power group that was inspired by the Viet Cong and Algerian resistance movements and waged guerrilla warfare against the U.S. government from 1970 to 1981. Shakur was one of the targets of the FBI's COINTELPRO program.

After being involved in a shootout with New Jersey police officers, Shakur was convicted on multiple counts of assault and murder and sentenced to life in prison. In 1979, BLA members freed her in a bloodless prison escape.

Shakur successfully sought political asylum in Cuba, where she died on September 25, 2025, at the age of 78

Damn I wonder when all the (cracker) Copdani stans here will have to say about him admitting he can’t arrest Netanyahu. I wonder how they will reconcile this with their previous drooling over this major campaign promise. Oh wow, more “he never said that” gaslighting and lying. What a surprise!

Also, won’t do anything about the illegal land sales but is happy to create speech restriction zones around where they’re being conducted and sicc the cops on protestors.

Actions speak louder than words

Can’t wait for the next wave of “ummmm why do you care so much about the NYC mayor sweaty????” since they have no actual counterargument

They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Honestly putting out that statement that he can't arrest Netanyahu was a ridiculous stunt. And I honestly don't even really care all that much, for the most part. Its the fact that, as you pointed out, created that buffer zone for protests against the sale of stolen land. Not only that, early on he kept on feeding into the growing "antisemitism" narrative. And after all this time he still has Zionists down his neck. Every news story I saw on his nothing burger statement had interviews with a bunch of malding Zionists.

Also it shouldn't go without saying, but it also feeds into the growing mainstream Democrat narrative that Netanyahu is the entire problem and not the entity itself.

Give the average cracker “leftist” their bike lanes and healthcare and they will go “fuck you I got mine”, their only problem with throwing Palestinians under the bus is if the bus costs money to ride.

Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
