Oh is this about lemmy leftists?
Good one!
Is the leftist in the room with you now?
No I’m alone in my mom’s basement.
SatansMagottyCumFart:
Come for the edgy username.
Stay for the mediocre ragebait.
Excellently stated.
Three T's two G's.
I did not ask actually
You didn’t need to.
ok
The voter that tends to vote against their own interests.
" I know the two options I have are being slapped or stabbed, but I could also do nothing and let the person with the knife pick. Since I don't want to be slapped, I just won't choose"
This is what I hear whenever someone tells me how dumb I am for voting in self defense. I honestly wonder how many actually understand how electoral politics works. Or that there's no real way to opt out of the consequences of the election, so strategic voting is necessary to keep fascists out of power.
But they'll just tell me there's no difference between the parties, then go quiet when asked why the Democrats would have done all of the things they never said they'd do and a have actively opposed. Anything to prevent self reflection on the consequences others have to face as the result of the choices they make and the, I guess.
No one knows. Everybody do the Nazi!
Lol?? Why so many downvotes
Because
As a liberal I like guns but I think they should be better controlled and people who own guns should carry liability insurance.
I think conservatives are bad and leftists while well-meaning are a largely useless political bloc mostly due to infighting, purity testing and low voting rates.
Not the state though, obviously. If it had to pay for its damage, then it couldn't afford to exist!
Everyone who owns a gun.
A weapon even.
Then you're going to love where prediction markets are headed.
Ahh yes, the "left is a useless political bloc" but when the Democrats lose it's a "It's the left's fault" blame game all the way down. Meanwhile we're just tired of mealy mouthed, corporatist neo-liberals being pushed on us that say things like "we need a strong republican party" or "nothing will fundamentally change." Perfect!
I'm tired of having Trump as a president.
Well blame the Democrats for putting out candidates who don't energize even their base. Blaming "the left' is what they want you to do so you don't question their continual failure to actually appeal to people. This also isn't just a Trump thing, it's a conservativism in general problem. The GQP break shit, the Democrats try to fix it without making changes that they know need to be done, then the GQP break the next thing. It's been going on for decades before him.
I blame the people who voted for Trump or the people who didn't vote.
That's how a democracy works.
And again you will ignore the lessons of the past and again be outwitted by Republicans. I sucked down the bile to vote Harris like I did with Biden including to Hillary. Biden won because the COVID response blew up in Trump's face but not enough people seemed to remember it to bother voting amongst even the liberal base.
You might have but millions of people who voted Biden decided not to vote in 2024 and I saw the left-wing campaign on social media telling people not to vote because the DNC and RNC are the same.
It was similar to what you're saying now.
And again back to the same argument, is the left an inconsequential voting bloc or do their votes really matter? Because you're doing what I said, blaming them for the loss instead of trying to identify the actual cause.
People are tired of incremental improvements at best, they're needing change because this is where we were being led regardless of who was in charge. It just happened sooner with the Heritage Foundation getting in power fully. They're actively making life worse and people may start to realize it's a cyclical problem. Getting the Republicans to be a non-starter of a party is the first step, second step is more progressive policies and politicians in the Democrat party. If they resist heavily, then do to them what we did to the other conservative party.
I didn't call them an inconsequential voting bloc I called them a largely useless political bloc mostly due to infighting, purity testing and low voting rates.
When you choose not to voice you take your voice off the table because there's no reason to listen.
There's as much reason to listen as disenfranchised voters have as much to say and because they don't vote doesn't invalidate it. A lot of black people didn't vote when given the opportunity for the longest time for a multitude of reasons. Did their voice not matter then?
No offense but are you comparing the struggles of leftists to the struggles of black Americans?
I'm saying that people who didn't vote still have a valid voice to be heard where as you say ignore it. Sometimes those reasons are minor, sometimes it's major that neither party fulfills.
Im not saying to ignore anyone I’m saying why would a party go after a person who won’t vote anyways?
I’m definitely not trying to compare them to a historically oppressed and enslaved group of people.
That sounds like ignoring them to me.
If a party disregards you because you didn't vote and there's no one to represent your views, you're disenfranchised. Democrats follow conservative fiscal policies that leave many people behind and measures to reconcile those differences are at best half ones. No one expects everything to be fixed today, but there's some serious issues that need handling now neither party has tried to resolve.
That's it, if you cannot be convinced disenfranchised non-voters deserve to be heard as much as voters leaves this at an impossible to surmount impasse. Democracy is about everyone having a say, even if they say no to what's available.
Because you can only post low effort bait for so long before people get sick of the novelty.
