According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the IRGC said in a statement that the region’s energy exports would be “either for everyone or for no one”.

Analysts told Reuters that Iran was signalling it could rely on its Houthi allies in Yemen to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the strategic waterway leading to the Red Sea. Such a move could open a new front against Washington and threaten two of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

The Bab al-Mandab Strait links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and is a key route for Saudi oil exports and a significant share of global maritime trade.

I think that's too far from their homeland. For now I have to assume they can't cost effectively blockade that one.

Even if they get manpower from the Houthis, how are all the rockets, mines, ships, radars, in short the materiel for a blockade supposed to get there?

Did you forget about the previous time the Houthi's blockaded the Red Sea in support of Palestine?

The way I remember they got bombed by the US and UK and their blockade was defeated. Well it officially ended in a ceasefire, but despite continuous new Israeli transgressions the Houthis seem to not have resumed attacking Israeli ships, so I assume they are substantially weakened.

They kept up the blockade until Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza. Houthi's bravery and solidarity is unmatched.
