Had a finger smashed and the fingernail readjusted, and medic told me I can't take it off for another three days

Some of those bandages ARE impregnated with chlorhex or antibiotic, and are already non-sticky. Not all of em but a lot are already non-sticky. It depends on the wound but sometimes they have to be kept dry so they dont put any ointment on for good reason, sometimes it has to be dry because of the specific repair they did. The bandage is just there to soak up whatever is leaking, keeps things in place, and help protect it from infection while it heals. I guess stick with what you were told, if it gets bad-stinky, you get a fever or it leaks something that looks bad gross (not just clear or red - green, yellow, gross pus looking), or if its soaking so much its sopping off or soaking a lot quickly, then go back for more advice and treatment. Later when it comes time to remove the dressing they might tell you to soak it to loosen it up, or to remove it a different way - stick to what they tell you when the time comes.
