I had someone who used to smoke crack tell me meth helped them kick the habit. Now they only drink a lot, which is still horrible, and not having the experience, it seemed extremely unlikely. They did get addicted to meth and after a psychotic break and isolating until they were over withdrawals and cravings, while copious amounts of alcohol isn't great, I'm pretty proud of them, and their partner for sticking with, during the hard times.
