Do normal PS5 controllers work on the Steam Machine?
EDIT: misspelled “PS5”, so had to correct it.
I don't have a PS5 controller but so far I've tested both the Steam Controller and an Xbox controller so far. Funnily enough, the Steam Controller was giving me issues during setup and I had to use my Xbox controller instead until I managed to connect my Steam Machine to WiFi and updated everything.
I can test out a PS4 controller tonight if you'd like (I don't own a PS5 controller, the PS4 is the only PlayStation I've owned).
Yeah, if you want, would be cool to see if it works. Though, if the Xbox controller works then the PS4 should work too.
I’m not planning to purchase the Steam Machine just yet though, going to wait a few months to see how things go
I'm assuming you mean PS5 controllers, and yes they should work fine. I believe you can also use the controller's gyro and touchpad area.
One weird issue is that while the controllers work normally wirelessly, I think it has to be plugged in to use some features like the adaptive triggers, for games that specifically support it.
This is because certain features (like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers) work by exposing them as an audio device to the host system, which isn't functional over Bluetooth (the reason I heard is that Bluetooth just doesn't have the latency for that, if there are third party projects that have found a way around that then great!).
All normal controller features work fine, you just can't use some of the PS5 exclusive stuff. I don't know of any games, including PS5 games ported to PC, that absolutely require the wired gestures.
Note this applies to all PCs, regardless of OS.
I can't seem to find it but I swear I saw a project to enable this while doomscrolling
Oops, yeah. I meant the PS5 controller
