Wasn't Vietnam the last significant military conflict China was a part of? Nearly 50 years ago?
But they have a disagreement where exactly some border in the sea is which is basically the same as bombing school girls.

Or Japan being the Japanese invasion of China in WW2.
A lot have shifted from saying China is militarily expanding and changed to economically doing it. Then use Africa as the example.
When people point out they're describing the methods the west/IMF does it not how China does it they get angry and insulting. Just like when pointing out how china's wiping the floor with automakers
