Ive tried to explain to people this exact mindset. Not that they need too much of an excuse. They don't exist in reality, the material world was put here by God for them to use. No need to care about what happens, pollution, extinction, etc.

in fact, ushering in "the apocalypse" faster might be in their interests. I do remember wishing the world would end so I could "hurry up and go to heaven" bleak shit.
