I saw the Resonant gameplay yesterday and I'm devastated. Looks like they made the sequel a souls like at first glance. I love the gunplay in the original.
What makes you say it's a Soulslike? It looks way more like a CAG (Character Action Game) to me.
The dodging looked like it might be. Could be you're right tho. Wouldn't be as bad as a souls like. I hate corpse runs, they're just a waste of time. I still would have preferred to shoot at stuff.
Not everything with a dodge button is a Soulslike, third-person action games existed before Dark Souls and will continue to exist in parallel to the Soulslike genre even though the latter has become a little too popular nowadays. From what I can see Control Resonant looks to take most of its inspiration from CAGs like Devil May Cry, God of War, Ninja Gaiden etc. Fast, fluid combos, aerial combos and launches, weapon switching etc.
I've been replaying it recently, still really fun. I'm unsure about the sequel, such a shame.
