Maybe racism, but probably southern hegemonic culture. For a while it was just rebellious virtue signaling, with most folks not bothering to put an iota of thought into the racist aspect of it. Nowadays anyone still showing it is absolutely being racist.

I think the only reason that Southerners stopped flying Confederate Flags is because they fly Trump flags now instead. Or the Thin Blue Line flag.
Oh, there's plenty doing both. But I've also met a number of folks who learned better. Now they're libs. Lol.
Yeah I met an old ass biker from Tennessee who had what clearly was the remnants of a confederate flag on his jacket, he said he ripped it off but left the remains because he couldn't just erase what he had been and because it gave him a chance for people to ask about it, which I thought was strangely principled and I respect him. He's probably closer to being a comrade than most libs since he is already in the process of reeducating himself with a healthy distrust of democrats.
Wish I could have talked to that dude more and I wish I had got his number or something.

100% this. Some kids get rebellious and join the "other" team but most find other outlets for it and just go further to one extreme for better or worse. I for one had to admit my mom was right and Obama turned out to be a piece of shit and I fell for it, but it's hard when your mom is also an anti-vaxx weirdo with a lot of racist brainworms of the white hippy kind.
