Fun tidbit: in the Warrant song "Cherry Pie" (which simultaneously put them on the map and tanked their careers as a serious band; for real, give "Uncle Tom's Cabin" a listen some time) C.C. DeVille played the guitar solo for the studio track.
For about 3 seconds for nostalgia's sake - I considered listening to that. But then I remembered nearly the entire song is - as I remember it... She's my cherry pie. Cool drink of water and (my, my, my?)...
"Cool drink of water, such a sweet surprise."
When the record label refused to release their album unless they added a radio-friendly single, Jani Lane wrote the lyrics over the span of about 8 minutes on the back of a pizza box. He was basically doing the malicious compliance thing and wrote "Cherry Pie" as a giant "fuck you" to the label execs. This backfired extravagantly when the label loved it so much that they changed the title of the album at the last minute and only promoted that one track for radio airplay. It's pretty fucked up, because they were more of a blues rock-oriented act than straight-up dumb guy glam butt rock. Then Nevermind hit just over a year later and it was a goddamned Cretaceous-Paleogene event for the hair metal scene anyway.
What a story. I didn't know their real style. I assumed that their Cherry Pie ridiculousness was what they always wanted.
A moment of silence please.
Ninja edit. Cherry Pie. I realized in my head I mashed up Cherry Pie with at least one other song. A Def Leppard song?
