The German word for "no" in this context is "keine", not "nein".

English "none"? My 5 year old daughter uses none when she should use no and it's very interesting because she's usually grammatically correct when you break it down. English is stupid.

Not OP, but the joke is fixable - when death asks the cat IF they have any lives left - and if so, how many - the cat says “nein”.

Still awkward, but at least grammatically correct!
