I hate being poor. Getting a new wardrobe is expensive... I should try thrifting
Is there any queer community organisations nearby that do gender affirming clothing swaps?
I got an amazing woman's sports coat and a pink vinyl jacket from one recently for free. The sports coat still had tags and I met the lovely lesbian who owned the jacket.
The stuff is often good because people want it to go to a good home and are often not wearing due to transitioning etc
That sounds like a super cool idea. I still haven't found any queer orgs around, but I'll try to look for it.
Unfortunately, I’ve learned that thrifting only lessens the burden rather than removing it entirely, this girl shit is so goddamn expensive
Thrift, and learn to hand sew. If you can find a decent sewing machine cheap, get it. Then collect all the clothes that are too big for you, and learn to take them in. Making your own clothes is hard cause decent fabric is fucking expensive. But mending and taking in, that isnt too hard and opens up a ton of options at the thrift store. The skirt thats too big? Add some darts. The jacket that would look better cropped? Crop it. The panty hose that got a hole from your big toe? Sew it up. Can't keep everything alive forever but you can greatly extend the lifespan of ur clothes with just a needle and thread.
