As said in another comment, it was the API changes breaking third-party-apps(which I don't want to minimise entirly because it did break many accessibility apps whose functionality hasn't been reproduced in the official app or site) that lead to a big exodus, I think most of those people would thought they would be able to get the same content as reddit(which tbh you do get 90%), but didn't release how right-skewed reddit is and thus that they'd be exposed to leftist ideas suppressed on reddit and that reading them, in addition to increasing inability for people to ignore heightening contradictions and lead an 'apolitical life', would lead them to experience some uncomfortable cognitive dissonance with their neoliberal informed worldviews
Anyway the ones that believe their lying eyes and have open minds will stay, the rest will self-isolate into their fash bubbles before eventually returning to reddit once they realise they have fuck all activity in them
