I’m never sure what to think of these videos. How reliable are the sources? Like I don’t speak Russian, and I honestly can’t even tell if it’s a deepfake or not.
Any suggestions on how to validate these?
My 50 cents on this as an Ukrainian.
Its likely not an AI cause it's way cheaper to just take a random Ukrainian and write such a video, most of us have flawless russian language skills and only a few details can give you up. Its isn't a real-time steam so you can work on eliminating that.
Now even if it's not a Ukrainian psyop. There are hundreds of millions of russians, surely there could be one that rants on camera. And the message here, well, it's not very pro-Ukrainian too, it's their favourite brand of "small men" apolitical survivalist, that would eat bark from the trees but won't even think to riot. If this is a genuine video, he isn't smart (in his own survivalist paradigm), as he just exposed himself with zero gains.
So the only useful bits from this video is the depression, and acceptance that their empire is losing it, and antimilitarist message. Maybe depression is a good thing short-term, as it strains already crumbling economy (people who enter survival mode don't spend), but a single emotion can't last forever. It comes and goes in waves.
Let's just hope they won't have a good reason to celebrate then the wave goes off.
Not and AI. Background has continuity that you can't get with AI. Buildings in the back should have features appearing and disappearing when covered by his head.
...and yes. Much easier to hire a fluent speaker.
The video is real, and the translation is okay, but the source of his claims is gossips.
Yeah, but those gossips, once they become large enough, is what'll get the people moving finally
I share your hope something will.
I made a custom program to add subtitles. If you run the video through Gemini or ChatGPT it should give you a nearly identical translation.
As for the video being AI, even though it looks like a simple clip, it would be very difficult and expensive to replicate this video for a few reasons, but mainly the background.
Thanks @LaFinlandia@sopuli.xyz - I appreciate your work and I follow the content you post here closely. I have no reason to believe that you share anything malicious.
However, you’re an anonymous stranger on the internet to me, and reason suggests that I should double-check my sources. You know the space way better that I do: Do you know of a media outlet that verifies these kinds of videos where I could find journalistic validation?
They have an archive that contains a lot of background information on each video.
