This is not a coffee place, it is a diabetes hole. permalink fedilink source hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] naught@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 months ago (4 children) you are allowed to get a black coffee permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 8 child comments replies: [–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago (1 child) The most over roasted slop around, sure. There's a reason why that place serves pure diabetes, their black coffee is kinda gross. maybe the coffee is gross so that it can pair with the diabetes. That much sugar needs a very strong flavor to offset it. Or Starbucks just uses the absolute cheapest beans on the market and then burns them for that truly consistent char flavor, which they then have to turn into diabetes to make palatable. Either way, it's just not good. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] jet@hackertalks.com 1 point 3 months ago I have to agree with you, i'm on a special diet, so I only drink black coffee - and if I get an americano from starbucks its so immensely bitter it's almost undrinkable - I think it only makes sense if they are balancing it against the super-sweetness of their sugar/fructose loaded drinks as default. permalink fedilink source parent [–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago (1 child) No one does that though, because Starbucks coffee is terrible. It’s over-roasted charcoal crap. If you order a black coffee, do yourself a favour and get a nice, light-roasted pour over from an independent cafe serving locally roasted, single-origin coffee. Good coffee should smell like a mix of dried fruit, floral perfume, and toasted nuts, not burnt rubber. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] ChokingHazard@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (2 children) Listen man, I get it, you don’t like dark roasts but you don’t have to yuck other peoples yums. Could they get a better one than at Starbucks? Sure. Is there anything wrong with a nice dark roast? No. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago I buy dark roasts from a local coffee roaster in my city. They don’t have any fruit or floral notes, but they taste like dark chocolate, not burnt rubber. They’re good dark roasts. Starbucks is still crap. It only tastes good in a giant cup of milk and sugar and caramel sauce. permalink fedilink source parent [–] percent@infosec.pub 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 child) That wasn't about dark roasts, that was about Starbucks' coffee and roast. There's a big difference. Starbucks goes darker than most specialty roasters' dark roasts. Also, "burnt rubber" notes often come from robusta coffee. Robusta is cheap, easy to grow, and has a long shelf life. The darker it's roasted, the less it tastes like burnt rubber[^1]. But Starbucks claims that they use 100% arabica. If true, then it's almost impressive that they made it taste like that. [^1]: There are some amazing, exceptional robustas, but you won't find them in commodity coffee or Starbucks permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 child) They do have light and medium roasts, too. Let them pour some sugar milk foam in it so at least you don't know that you are drinking burnt mediocre coffee. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] naught@sh.itjust.works 1 point 4 months ago you're talkin to a guy who dumps instant coffee into cold water. starbucks cold brew black is at least vaguely ok. plus its way less expensive to get it without all the fixins. and yes, still infinitely more expensive than brewing your bean water yourself permalink fedilink source parent [–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 point 4 months ago I don't know, mediocre is a stretch. permalink fedilink source parent [–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago Which statistically is likely the least selling menu item at a Starbucks and probably also tastes like shit permalink fedilink source parent
