But seriously, I am worried that there seems to be no viable alternative to Labor?
It feels more unstable, and I'll have to go revisit the history books on how Hitler came to power from a minority....
It's kind of interesting that you could equate the position of Chancellor in Germany to that of Governor General in Australia. And while the position is seen as largely performative, it certainly has powers that a bad actor could take advantage of.
I worry that a lot of our 'freedoms' etc are not really safeguarded, overly reliant on 'tradition' and 'precedent' and ultimately at the will and whim of whoever holds the office and can do whatever they want.

I'm worried about the lack of opposition as well. Hopefully the coalition implosion will open up space for new voices.
