It's kind of interesting that you could equate the position of Chancellor in Germany to that of Governor General in Australia. And while the position is seen as largely performative, it certainly has powers that a bad actor could take advantage of.
I worry that a lot of our 'freedoms' etc are not really safeguarded, overly reliant on 'tradition' and 'precedent' and ultimately at the will and whim of whoever holds the office and can do whatever they want.

The reference to "next steps" is ominous because it's not clear what they are.
I was expecting one of the quotes about Aussies being decent, caring people who will pull together and do the right thing. Proof that Albo doesn't get out much.
