There is no rational reason to have that seperated by gender in the first place other than imposing gender norms.
I remember thinking this was a weird thing to do when I was 10.
Women don't get the amount of support, time and funding that men get from their childhood to become professionals at many sports, it's one of the main reasons behind gender differences in performance in some categories of elite athletes, removing gender separation in sports could potentially hurt a lot of professional sportswomen in this regard. Ofc full support to trans people getting to compete in whichever gender they choose.
And mixed spaces are notoriously toxic for female athletes, too. In chess, women masters fought to keep the women's divisions and tournaments just because they're safe spaces for them.
every once in a while a woman will be a kicker or punter in gridiron football and they pretty much all get assaulted by teammates.
K-12 is kindergarten through 12th grade, which usually ends around 18 years old
